I'm Obsessed With Sun Protection—Here Are My Favorite Wide-Brim Hats

Photo:
@fitzpatrickerinIn case you missed it, last summer, I wrote about what it was like having skin cancer at 20 years old. Luckily, the two spots were removed without issue, but the experience sparked a lifelong dedication to sun protection. In addition to sunscreen, hats are my favorite way to shield myself from the sun. Considering that both of my basal cell carcinoma spots were on my forehead, wearing hats outside is a no-brainer for me, and it should be for you, too!
Below, I've rounded up some of my favorite wide-brim hats that are practical and stylish. From affordable versions to luxury buys, there's something in this roundup for everyone. I don't want to sound like a broken record, but don't forget that SPF, even if you're wearing a hat.
Straw Hats
The aptly named "Best Hat" is a winner in my book thanks to the wide 5-inch brim, practical chin strap, and quality tight-weave design.
This chin strap is super practical for windy days.
This hat has over 350 five-star reviews on Nordstrom thanks to its high quality and classic design.
This is a best seller at Madewell, and it's easy to see why: It's super chic and protects well.
This would look perfect with a classic white shirtdress.
I love how this is styled with a floral dress in coordinating colors.
This ultra-wide brim will certainly come in handy this summer.
Here's an option for those of you who will never give up black, even in the summer.
This scalloped detail is such a fun twist on a standard straw hat.
Bucket Hats
This strawberry print is too cute to pass up.
This yellow hat is so cheery and is perfect for warm summer days spent outside.
I'd wear this with an electric-blue dress for a bit of contrast.
Madewell has never let me down when it comes to accessories.
Your inner 13-year-old is jealous of this cute patchwork hat.
This patchwork hat has a cool '70s feel to it.
Don't be afraid to mix prints and wear this with a striped dress.
Visors
Eugenia Kim is always a smart choice when it comes to well-made hats.
Could the logo visor be the new logo bag? Only time will tell.
This would look fantastic with a linen dress.
