I've Been a Stylist for 10 Years—These Are the Brands I Always Wear
When she’s not working with big names like Lupita Nyong’o, Constance Wu, and Diane Kruger or writing a best-selling book, celebrity stylist Micaela Erlanger divulges her fashion expertise in our Ask a Stylist column. From the best places to source vintage to the secret to finding your most flattering jeans, come back each week for a professional’s perspective.
As I’ve mentioned before, the one outfit I wear on repeat and that describes my style the best would be jeans and a T-shirt with either a blazer or a black leather jacket. It’s the easiest way to look professional and polished without trying too hard. In the same vein, today I’m sharing the brands I’ve been wearing for well over 10 years. These are the brands I can always count on for wardrobe classics and new pieces to update my go-to outfit combination. Whether you’re looking for investment items or everyday basics, I recommend adding the below brands to the top of your next shopping list. Shop all the brands you’ll find in my NYC closet below.
For Everyday Basics
When it comes to everyday basics, I always look to brands like J.Crew and Madewell for my favorite jeans. I have too many ATM and Monrow T-shirts to even count; the quality and design are like no other. You’ll find accessories and trendier pieces throughout my closet from Zara, and some of my favorite stylish sneakers are from Steve Madden. Now that you know the brands that build up my wardrobe, shop my favorite picks from each trusted place.
For Investment Pieces
For investment pieces like quality flats and sleek leather jackets, I look to heritage brands like Chanel and Saint Laurent. While these pieces are on the pricey side, the cost per wear will eventually even out and make the purchase worth it. My blazer selection is full of options from Stella McCartney and Smythe, both brands that offer the most impeccably designed blazers. For everything in between, I shop at Rag & Bone, which in my opinion straddles both sections: investment and everyday wardrobe essentials. Shop my favorite pieces from the brands I mentioned below.
Up next, shop the three most important trends for winter.
A self proclaimed “vintage-a-holic, and glamour girl” Micaela’s clients include: Lupita Nyong’o, Michelle Dockery, Meryl Streep, Jared Leto, Common, Jennifer Hudson, Hilary Swank, Tatiana Maslany and John Boyega. The hallmark of Micaela’s work is her meticulous attention to detail and a keen focus on the client’s needs and objectives. With a love for all things beautiful and alluring, coupled with an appreciation of the whimsical, Micaela brings a versatile and fresh approach to styling.
