5 Fresh Jean Trends to Wear If You Loathe Skinny Jeans
When it comes to denim trends, skinny jeans tend to be one of those more polarizing cuts. That being said, people truly tend to either love or loathe them. While I personally think skinnies are a classic and fail-safe choice, I do get those that prefer different silhouettes to freshen up their ensembles. If you are one of those people, you’re in luck. Below, I’ve rounded up five of the chicest spring/summer 2020 denim trends that are more or less anti–skinny jeans. And because celebrities are often some of the first to test out the latest trends, I looked to celebs like Hailey Bieber and Jennifer Lopez to showcase the looks.
Without further ado, keep scrolling to uncover a bit of visual and denim shopping inspiration. Don’t forget to grab a pair (or two) of non-skinnies for yourself this season.
1. Flares
On Priyanka Chopra Jonas: Chanel jacket; Jennifer Fisher hoops; Paige High Rise Lou Lou Flare Jeans ($138); Stuart Weitzman Wren Boots ($431)
This anti–skinny jean trend is coming back with a vengeance this season and bringing a retro spin to your go-to casual fit.
2. Skinny-Adjacent Jeans
On Hailey Bieber: Oak + Fort Cropped Cardigan ($98); Saint Laurent New Wave Sunglasses ($380) and Cassandra Bag ($2390); Carvela Goddess Sandals ($130)
Slimmer cut in the leg (but not super-tight like skinnies), this cut is for the style setter who likes skinnies but doesn’t love the painted-on look.
3. Wide-Leg Jeans
On Selena Gomez: Naked Cashmere sweater; Levi’s jeans; BY FAR Top-Handle Bag ($625); Roxanne Assoulin earrings; Yuul Yie boots
Super wide-leg jeans are picking up steam amongst the celeb and fashion crowd as one of the coolest, laid-back jean trends to try.
4. Bootcut Jeans
On Bella Hadid: Prada bag
Similar to flares, bootcut jeans (which have just a slight flair at the opening) are happening in a major way RN. For the most forward vibe, consider a longer pair that bunches at the bottom.
5. Classic Straight-Leg Jeans
On Jennifer Lopez: Max Mara coat; Valentino bag; Timberland boots
Sometimes you just can’t beat a pair of standard straight-leg jeans to bring that "classic but chic” feel to a look.
