I've Been Testing This Affordable Korean Skincare Brand for Less Than a Week and My Face Is Already Glowing
Beauty of Joseon is an incredibly popular Korean skincare brand, so I put it to the test to find out if it's worth the hype. Here are my honest thoughts...

I want to start by saying that Korean skincare isn't a trend. No, these products and ingredients aren't new, but that's not to say they aren't gaining increasing popularity.
Yes, my TikTok feed is currently dominated by Korean skincare routines, and I can see why. Not only are the formulations 10/10, but these products are ideal if you like that glowy, glass-skin finish. With more and more Korean brands and products such as cleansers, serums and moisturisers being stocked at retailers such as Lookfantastic and Boots, lots of us are becoming more curious about which brands are worth the cash. One brand I'm particularly interested in is Beauty of Joseon.
I've been putting the most popular Beauty of Joseon products to the test.
What Is Beauty of Joseon?
Founded in 2016 by Sumin Lee, this line of pretty affordable skincare products is packed with nourishing formulas that work to deliver glass-like skin, designed with a range of skin types in mind (which explains why it's all over social media).
With lots of products on offer, I thought it was time that I called in some of the brand's bestselling formulations. I had plans to put these products through their paces over the next couple of months, however, I'm less than a week in and my complexion is already glowing. As someone with combination skin, clogged pores and uneven skin texture, getting a radiant finish is no mean feat, but this brand has defied all of my expectations. Intrigued to know which products have become mainstays in my routine already? Just keep on scrolling.

The Best Beauty of Joseon Products, Tried and Tested
- Best Cleanser: Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm
- Best Toner: Beauty of Joseon Glow Replenishing Rice Milk Toner
- Best Moisturiser: Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream
- Best SPF: Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics SPF50+
1. Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm
Best for: Dry skin
Product type: Cleanser
If you're looking for a cleanser to melt away any traces of makeup, then look no further. Beauty of Joseon's cleansing balm effectively cleanses the skin and leaves you with a glowing finish. The formula is enriched with rice extracts and ginseng to hydrate the skin and add that sought-after glow.
My review: I am a big cleansing balm fan, but I'm fussy when it comes to different formulas. I don't like anything too rich, but I also want something that will remove my makeup with ease. This balm does exactly that. It feels incredibly soft on the skin, gently melting away any impurities and leaving you with a hydrated, radiant complexion that doesn't feel greasy or oily.
Pros
- Removes makeup
- Feels gentle on the skin
- Leaves you with a radiant finish
Cons
- Cleansing balms might be too rich for some
2. Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser
Best for: Oily skin
Product type: Cleanser
Next up is another cleanser that is ideal for oily skin types. This formula works to gently exfoliate the skin, which is why I love to use this as my second evening cleanse. It features 24% green plum water, which is a naturally derived AHA. This ingredient works to remove dead skin cells and congestion, resulting in a brighter, more even skin tone.
My review: This cleanser has a refreshing gel texture that feels amazing on the skin. It foams up once you start to rub it in, and while I'm not usually a fan of foaming formulas, this one didn't feel drying or stripping in the slightest. Instead, my skin was left feeling clean, radiant and more balanced overall.
Pros
- Refreshing texture
- Doesn't feel stripping
Cons
- Might not work for very dry skin types
3. Beauty of Joseon Glow Replenishing Rice Milk Toner
Best for: Combination skin
Product type: Toner
This was probably the product that I was most excited to try, and it did not disappoint. The milky toner has been designed to soothe and nourish skin thanks to its hydrating formula, leaving you with a beautifully dewy finish. However, this product isn't just for dry skin types. Yep, the dual-layer formula also helps to minimise visible oil and shine, so oily or combination skin types can rejoice knowing that this won't leave your skin greasy or overly shiny.
My review: I don't normally use a toner, but I couldn't wait to add this into my routine. I apply a few drops into my hands after cleansing before gently pressing the product into the skin, and my complexion is left soothed and hydrated.
Pros
- Soothes the skin
- Hydrating formula
- Adds a dewy finish
Cons
- Adds an extra step to your skincare routine
4. Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum Rice + Arbutin
Best for: Dull skin
Product type: Serum
If you want to take your glowy skin up a notch, say hello to the Glow Deep Serum from Beauty Of Joseon. Ideal for dull skin types, this lightweight formula features 68% rice bran water and 2% arbutin to help even out your skin tone and leave you with a radiant finish.
My review: Some serums can feel quite heavy on my skin, but not this one. While the lightweight formula can take a little while to sink in (the skin can feel quite tacky at first), after a few minutes, all I'm left with is a baby-soft complexion and a subtle glow.
Pros
- Lightweight formula
- Leaves a radiant finish
Cons
- Can take a little while to sink into the skin
5. Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream
Best for: All skin types
Product type: Moisturiser
This might just be one of my favourite Beauty of Joseon products of all time. I normally stray away from richer moisturisers because of my combination skin, but this formula has been designed with all skin types in mind. Packed with rice bran water, ginseng water, squalane and niacinamide, the nourishing cream hydrates while reducing the appearance of excess oil. The result? A balanced complexion that is positively glowing.
My review: If your skin is feeling a little dry or dull, I recommend adding this moisturiser to your basket ASAP. My skin has never looked (or felt) so soft, plump and dewy.
Pros
- Hydrating formula
- Helps reduce the appearance of excess shine
- Creamy, nourishing texture
Cons
- A little more expensive than other products from the brand
6. Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice + Probiotics SPF50+
Best for: All skin types
Product type: SPF
This Korean SPF came highly recommended to me from our beauty editor, Eleanor Vousden, so I couldn't wait to give it a go. Suitable for all skin types, the incredibly lightweight formula sinks into the skin in seconds and leaves you with a glowy, nourishing complexion that will make you look forward to applying your SPF every single day.
My review: In my opinion, this feels more like a luxury face cream than a daily SPF. I genuinely look forward to my morning skincare routine as I know that this will be the last product I get to use. It's practically invisible on the skin and creates the most radiant base for your makeup.
Pros
- Lightweight formula
- Leaves you with a glowy finish
Cons
- Oily skin types might want a more mattifying option
7. Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum Ginseng + Retinal
Best for: All skin types
Product type: Eye serum
I know a retinal eye cream sounds scary, but this one is suitable for retinal beginners and those of you with sensitive skin. Yep, this formula features 2% retinal liposome to help tackle fine lines, while ginseng root extract, niacinamide and glycerin work to hydrate, brighten and soften the skin.
My review: I normally avoid retinal eye creams but I was delighted to hear that this was suitable for sensitive skin. The pump format makes it easy to apply and the lightweight cream leaves your under-eyes positively glowing.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Hydrating
Cons
- If you're new to retinal, I would recommend slowly introducing this into your skincare routine
8. Beauty of Joseon Ground Rice and Honey Glow Mask
Best for: Uneven skin texture
Product type: Face mask
While a face mask isn't part of my typical skincare routine, I was excited to try this one from Beauty of Joseon. It features a blend of 5% honey and natural rice hull powder to buff away dead skin cells, hydrate the skin and leave you with an even glow. Plus, Kaolin clay helps to reduce excess oil, making this a great option for a range of skin types.
My review: I won't lie, I do find a face mask a bit of a faff. Not only are they a mess to apply, but you end up having to leave them on for quite a while, making your skincare routine a lot longer. However, this mask comes with a handy spatula, meaning you don't have to worry about making a mess, and although I did have to leave it on for 15-20 minutes, the results were worth it. It has a grainy texture, but it doesn't feel harsh on the skin. Instead, it made my complexion feel so soft and fresh.
Pros
- Easy to apply
- Leaves your skin feeling silky soft
Cons
- Have to leave on for 15-20 minutes
How We Tested
As a beauty editor, I'm lucky enough to test skincare products for a living. Yep, I've spent years putting some of the most popular products to the test, so I know what to look out for when it comes to effective formulas. Not only that, but I spend my weeks talking to top dermatologists, so I also know a good skincare ingredient when I see one.
I replaced my entire skincare routine with these products from Beauty of Joseon. I used them morning and night for almost a week and have already noticed a huge difference in my skin.
