I'm a Beauty Editor With Short Nails—7 Chic Ways I'm Wearing Them Right Now
Forget long lengths, these short nail styles are defining summer.
As a beauty editor, I've spent years reporting on nail trends, but despite the ever-changing cycle of viral manicures, one thing has remained constant: I only wear short nails. While long almond and stiletto shapes may dominate social media, I've always preferred a shorter length that's low-maintenance, practical, and in my opinion, just as chic.
Thankfully, this summer's biggest nail trends prove that you don't need extra length to make an impact. In fact, many of the most stylish manicures of the season look even better on short nails, whether it's glossy, barely-there finishes or playful pops of colour.
If you're anything like me and prefer to keep your nails short, you're in luck. I've rounded up the chicest short nail looks to try this summer, whether you're after something fun, fancy or a mani that feels a little more trend-led, these are my go-to styles.
Short Summer Nail Trends 2026
1. Golden Hour Chrome
If there's one nail trend I'm predicting will be everywhere this summer, it's golden hour chrome. On short nails, it feels summery and fresh, and the delicate, almost watery effect doesn't need extra length to make an impact. In fact, I'd argue it looks even chicer on a shorter manicure.

2. Silver Cat Eyes
While metallic nails are often associated with party season, there's something about silver that just works when you're holding a cocktail on a rooftop or in a beach bar. For me, it's a perfect choice if you want something a little more interesting than a classic nude but still wearable enough for everyday.

3. 3D Butter Cream
I spotted this set on Olivia Dean and have been obsessed ever since. Nailing (pardon the pun) three trends in one, they combine the colour of the season, butter yellow, with exquisite floral detailing and playful polka dots. What's not to love?

This classic French manicure has been given a summer-ready twist with that punchy, sea-inspired blue.

5. Cold Foam
Cold foam nails are my current obsession, and yes, I’m fully leaning into the coffee shop reference. Think that soft, whipped layer of frothy silver sitting on top of an iced drink, translated into a manicure. The finish is light, subtly metallic, with a muted silver sheen that feels more creamy than chrome.

6. Milky Floral
The soft, sheer base keeps everything looking clean and natural on this milky floral mani, while the delicate blue flowers add just enough detail to make it feel intentional and summery

7. Yellow French Tips
Swapping out the classic white for a soft or sun-bright yellow gives the French tip a playful twist, and it’s an easy way to nod to colour if you’re usually a neutral wearer, but still want something that feels a little more fun for summer.
