The One Winter Outfit That Always Looks Expensive

Sponsor Content Created With Walmart

Does anyone else feel like winter hit particularly fast this year? One minute I'm living in breezy dresses, and the next it's full-on sweater weather. I'm not complaining, though. In fact, I'm quite excited for the chilly season and all of the cozy clothing that accompanies it.

I usually gravitate toward my trusty denim-and-blazer uniform in colder months, layered underneath an array of coats, of course, but not this year. Instead, I'm making my go-to outfit one that I've been spotting on so many of my favorite fashion influencers, such as Seattle-based Morgan Lillian, the past few weeks: plaid trousers and a leather (or vegan-leather) jacket. It's simple to put together but looks so chic and expensive even if it's not. (Note: Lillian's entire ensemble is from Walmart and clocks in under $200.) Get her pointers for styling this winter outfit, and shop her exact look below.

On what she loves most about Seattle:

"The best thing about living in Seattle are the seasons. We are lucky enough to experience all four each year."

On how living in Seattle has influenced her style:

"Living in Seattle has definitely influenced me to adopt a more casual style of dressing. I can't live without a good sneaker, for example. At the same time, though, Seattle inspires me to be more creative with my looks. I'm someone who likes to go against the grain, and nothing says that more in Seattle than a trendy, statement look."

On her personal style:

"My style is unapologetic yet trendy with a balanced mix of masculine and feminine."

On where she gets her style inspiration:

"Badass women like Danielle Bernstein, Jourdan Sloane, and Negin Mirsalehi have all influenced my style in one way or another over the years."

On her go-to winter outfit:

"I chose this look because it is effortless, incorporates timeless pieces, and yet is also on trend for this season with the chunky boots and knitwear. I would wear this anywhere from my 9-to-5 to drinks on a Friday night to brunch with my family on the weekend. It is very versatile and incorporates pieces that can easily be worked into many other looks."

On the versatility of her look:

"I would love to style the plaid trousers with a slouchy boot. A killer high-neck dress with a puff sleeve would be so cool paired with these boots and the bag."

On the hero piece of her outfit:

"A leather jacket is a must in my wardrobe because it is a staple piece that you can always rely on, no matter what city you are in." [Ed. note: This one is faux leather but looks just as chic as the real deal.]

On wearing trousers instead of denim:

"Plaid trousers are great for when you want a polished look while making a statement at the same time."

On how her style changes in different cities:

"I 100% adapt my style when traveling. For example, when I travel to New York, I play up my trendy yet more formal side. In L.A., I channel a streetwear-meets-beachy aesthetic. I like to match the vibe of where I am and embrace the style of that city."

On her Seattle's best hits list:

1. Westward: Get there five minutes before its opens for happy hour to get a seat looking out at the lake. Order oysters and an Aperol spritz.

2. Antonio the Spa: I go so often I practically live there. Book the Oxygeneo Facial with Rachael and tell her Morgan Lillian sent you. Trust me.

3. The Nest: Best rooftop bar in the city.

4. Ballard Sunday Farmers Market: It goes year-round, and it’s my favorite market. Plus, it’s in the cutest area.

5. Ascend: It has arguably one of the best views out of any restaurant in the area. Getting the Wagyu is a must.

6. Suncadia Resort and Lodge: The great thing about Seattle is that you can get to the mountains or snowy landscapes within about an hour. Make sure to go to the spa here. It has outdoor pools, which are really fun when it is snowing.
