The hardest part about indulging in fall's must-have mulberry lip is finding the right shade for your complexion. To prove it, we rounded up a few of our favorite celebrities rocking bold, wine-colored lips and put together a few tips for finding your perfect match.

    Amanda Seyfried

It was Seyfried's look at Miu Miu's S/S 13 show that prompted our research into which colors look best on which skin tones. Coincidentally, she too wore Cle de Peau's Extra Rich Lipstick ($60) in R10. CoverGirl's LipPerfection Lipcolor ($7) in Embrace offers a similar purplish-wine color. Seyfried's makeup artist, Katya Thomas, said she was "inspired by Amanda's beautiful porcelain skin and blue eyes" and wanted to evoke "a sultry chic feel that's perfect for this season."

Thomas' tip for finding the right lipstick? "You need to experiment with different colors to find the shade that most suits your skin and eye color," she says. "Don't be misled by how a color looks before it's applied."

    Ashley Madekwe

The Revenge actress never shies away from a bold lip. She did her own makeup here, using Nars' Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($24) in Damned.

To balance her dark hair and pale skin, Lezark used Chanel Rouge Hydrabase Crème Lipstick in Vamp. Unfortunately, the shade's been discontinued, but we're pretty sure Chanel just renamed it Rouge Allure Lipstick ($34) in Rouge Noir (they're nearly identical).

    Jennifer Lopez

Lopez usually goes for more glow than goth, but at a premiere of What to Expect When You're Expecting, the pop star was one of the first to embrace fall's bold lip. Makeup artist Mary Phillips kept it simple, painting Lopez's lips with Tom Ford Beauty's Lip Color ($48) in Black Orchid.

Hough rocked one of our favorite looks at ELLE's Women in Hollywood party last week. Her ivory dress and flawless skin were the perfect canvas for a wine lip. Makeup artist Molly Stern both lined and filled in the actress' lips with Nars' Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($24) in Toundra. "For a little sheen and bottom lip pout," Stern added a touch of Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint ($24) in Moody on top.

    Rihanna

Makeup artist Mylah Morales said, "Rihanna's performance outfit inspired me to go with a lip shade completely unexpected and surprising." She chose the purple with Rihanna's gold jersey in mind, lining the singer's lips with M.A.C.'s Lip Liner ($15) in Nightmoth before filling them in with the brand's Lipstick ($15) in Smoked Purple.

    Lana Del Rey

Del Ray usually rocks a dramatic cat eye and a nude lip, but at this year's Met Ball, she topped off her dramatic black cape with a gothic lip. Makeup artist Pamela Cochrane lined the singer's lips with M.A.C.'s Lip Pencil ($15) in Currant before filling them in with NARS' Pure Matte Lipstick ($25) in Volga.

    Elettra Wiedemann

Makeup artist Serge Hodonu wanted to give Wiedemann a "strong wine lip colour to contrast with her pure and innocent look," so he lined her lips with Lancome's Le Crayon Lip Pencil ($24) in Plum, blending the liner toward the center of her mouth. Then he finished with a coat of Lancome's L'Absolu Rouge Lipstick ($30) in Jezebel.
