To our surprise, the trends she came back with are all unique from the typical styles we have been seeing this 2017 summer season.
“These trends bear testament to the huge shifts in the apparel industry. Digital has shaken up the traditional journey of trends, meaning things can arrive fast, accrue mass adoption quickly and avoid the clear runway-to-retail pathway. These trends remind us that fashion can be fun, frivolous, and silly while still making retailers money,” said Katie. Don’t worry—none of the styles you’re about to see are “unusual” in the unwearable sense; they are just distinct enough to differentiate you from the rest of the crowd.
Go on to shop the four summer trends that are selling out the quickest this season.
“Laced jeans are up 70.5% from a year ago, led by runway denim innovator Marques’Almeida. Styles have already have sold out at mass-market retailers like Topshop, Pretty Little Thing, H&M, and ASOS’s Farleigh (which sold out in 11 days).”
“Uncomfortably high-cut swimsuits are back, and red swimsuits on sale are up by 58% in the last three months, with many already sold out.”
“New arrivals are up 21% from a year ago, but sellouts have outpaced the growth in number of styles by 27%. The shade featured on the S/S 17 runways at Acne Studios, Chloé, Mulberry, and Jil Sander.”
“Another quite unusual trend is women’s camouflage, which is selling well on bikinis (Hayley Baldwin was pictured in one from Vix that has sold well at Net-a-Porter), T-shirts, pants, ‘shackets,’ and skirts. New arrivals have stayed the same as last year, but full-price sellouts have climbed 72%, which implies this one is consumer driven.”
