I'm an L.A-Based Swimwear Designer—31 Swimsuits for Every Summer Style Aesthetic
Swimsuit season is in full swing, and if you're anything like me, you're probably looking to add a new suit (or two) to your repertoire in the upcoming weeks. Luckily, there are plenty of chic swimwear trends for the taking this summer to suit every style aesthetic.
To get some further swimwear shopping guidance, I tapped Lauren Quinn, swimwear designer and founder of Bromelia, an ethically made swimwear brand based in L.A. Quinn has a few tips when it comes to swimwear shopping. "You make your best memories of the year in your swimsuit, so it's worth putting some time and effort into trying plenty of options. There's a style out there for everyone. I spend a lot of time with women at our flagship store on Abbott Kinney in Venice, and I always say to them that the best way to find your swimsuit is when you leave the dread of swimwear shopping behind and enjoy the process. Some of the most popular styles we're seeing women gravitate toward this summer are string triangle tops (worn several different ways), high-leg bikini bottoms, strappy one-pieces, and cinched-waist one-pieces," she says. "Look for clean-finish seams in bottoms and one-pieces—i.e., soft, turned-in edges. This helps to avoid the four-cheek look. If you'd like to give your chest a light lift, try a fixed triangle top with binding under the bust instead of a wire. It brings your bust to the party in a natural way. And ruching on a bikini bottom is your best bikini tool! This single piece of thread helps to define the roundness and give the look of a lift."
Below, Quinn shares some of her favorite swimsuit picks based on your summer style aesthetic. Whether you're a coastal grandma (that would be me!) or you lean into the Y2K vibe, there's a cool swimsuit for every style.
"If your beach mode is white breezy pants and Diane Keaton vibes, step into your coastal-grandma summer aesthetic in a one-piece that doubles as a bodysuit."
Shop the aesthetic:
"If showing skin, crushing on colors, and the dotcom boom fuels your fashion choices, slide into a statement-making triangle bikini top."
Shop the aesthetic:
"If a bow, a floral, and a carriage are how you roll up to the sand, then I'd recommend a pastel bikini and a billowing cover-up that will take you from beach to ball."
Shop the aesthetic:
"If neutrals are your favorite color, your summer is preferred poolside and you never leave home without your brow brush, then keep it elevated with minimalist black, white, and neutral silhouettes."
Shop the aesthetic:
"It's all about racy and risqué pieces when it comes to the Hot Girl Summer aesthetic, so pair 'less is more' cheeky bikini bottoms with your 10 a.m. martinis."
Shop the aesthetic:
"If you prefer ballet flats, tulle, and bodysuits at the barre, then plié into the pool this summer in soft-pink and black class-ready one-pieces."
