Summer Sets: The Easy, Comfy, and Cool Trend Everyone's Vibing With RN
Just because we'll be spending more time out of the house this summer than last year doesn't mean we're completely ditching our comfy vibe. Sure, fancier going-out pieces and—gasp—heels are slowly starting to enter back into our outfit rotations, but I think I speak for everyone when I say that comfort is still our top priority. The trend that I'm unpacking here feels extra relevant right now for that reason. It's easygoing and unfussy but still has that cool factor to it.
Enter the trend I've dubbed summer sets. In lightweight fabrics like poplin and linen, these duos are defined by two pieces: a button-down shirt with long or short sleeves and coordinating shorts that are somewhat inspired by boxers. Almost as soon as I became aware these sets were becoming a thing, they suddenly proliferated and started popping up everywhere I looked. Spot them on fashion-girl Instagram styled with cool basics like ribbed tanks and even worn as swimsuit cover-ups. Obviously, the idea is that you'll be wearing them together, but like all good matching sets, each piece is easily styled solo, too.

"Honestly, this is my new favorite shirt. I wish they still had the green color because I can't stop wearing the yellow! It's so cute and flattering, and the fabric is really lovely. If you're on the fence, COMMIT. [It] definitely runs large, but I love the oversize vibe. Makes me feel like Diane Keaton ready to walk the beaches of Rhode Island." — Madewell Reviewer
Pretty yellow stripes.
"These shorts are so cute and comfy as well. The cotton is crisp, and the fit is true to size. I was concerned they might be too short, but they are just right. I'm usually a medium in everything at Madewell, and that was the size I bought. I also got the matching top, and it's such a cute set!" — Madewell Reviewer
This color, though.

"I really love this shirt. As a larger straight size or a small plus size, I find I usually have to choose between something tight or something that drowns me. This shirt is right in the middle, and it's great." — Universal Standard Reviewer
Such a pretty texture.

"The silk material used in this set is top-notch and feels incredibly soft to the touch. The fabric is lightweight and breathable, perfect for those hot summer days! The short sleeves and shorts also make for a comfortable and relaxed fit." — Amazon Reviewer
