There's no denying that our home spaces have become more sacred than ever. Over the last several years, different practices designed to help protect our home spaces and transform them into intimate oases have become more of a priority. Home décor expert and YouTube creator Alexandra Gater is at the forefront of this moment. Connecting with millions through her home makeover videos, Gater has carved a niche for herself in making luxurious design techniques accessible for both renters and homeowners. Gater's design ethos echoes the belief that everyone deserves to live—and thrive—in a beautiful space, no matter the budget.

Gater has amassed over 500,000 subscribers on YouTube and her website, which serves as a platform for her custom content, including virtual makeover packages, product collaborations, DIY tips and tricks, and a collection of handmade Moroccan pom-pom slippers.

To further evolve houses into "homey homes," Gater is releasing a coffee table book, Own Your Own Space. Gater's unique sense of space and perspective on inclusivity in the home has set her apart in the design space and even landed her on a Tedx Talk where she revealed how she turned losing her dream job into an opportunity to launch a multi-six-figure business she is truly passionate about.

However, before Gater found her passion within the interior world, she worked for the iconic Canadian lifestyle magazine Chatelaine. There, she worked her way up from an art department intern to a full-time editorial coordinator to eventually overseeing the entire Home section across print and digital platforms, which ultimately sparked her interest in design. Listen to the latest episode of Second Life to hear how Gater found a career in curating sacred home spaces for others and where she plans to evolve her business.
