7 NYC-Girl Style Staples I'm Scooping Up at Nordstrom
So you want to get the NYC-girl fashion look while shopping at Nordstrom, you say? I got you. While there's really no way to sum up the style of a city comprised of eight million residents, there's definitely an overall sense of cool that pervades New York fashion. They've figured out how to dress for every type of weather while also being the first to test-drive the latest trends—wearing everything from classic black jeans to the latest It bag—and I've decided to take it upon myself to do something about all my wardrobe envy.
I took to the retailer I always turn to for staple fashion buys—Nordstrom—and after highlighting the pieces I feel are essential to any NYC-girl wardrobe, I found my favorite versions of each and am currently debating which to buy. If you're with me, keep scrolling to see (and shop) each one.
1. High-Rise Black Jeans
First things first: denim. It wouldn't be a story on NYC-girl style if we didn't talk about jeans at all and black high-waisted pairs are the backbone of any city girl's closet.
2. Easy Midi Dresses
Now that the days are getting longer and spring is almost here, an easy throw-on-and-go dress is a must, but keep it in rotation all year long by getting creative with layering. As for the silhouette, we're loving lingerie-inspired slips the most right now.
3. Walkable Sandals
Walking all day is just part of life in NYC, which makes narrowing in on sandals that are both cute and comfy essential. These ones magically do both.
4. Leather Jackets
The leather jacket is, to me, synonymous with that sleek and polished look NY people are known for, and while leather motos will always be a thing, fresher leather jackets like blazers and shirt jackets are coming in hot.
5. Shoulder Bags
Sure, residents of the East Coast city love their style staples, but they know that grabbing a trend-focused bag can instantly update an otherwise basic outfit.
6. Chain Necklaces
Layer up a few gold chain necklaces and you have the ideal jewelry look that you can wear day in and day out.
7. Classic (But Cool) Sneakers
Classic kicks don't have to be boring—just take it from NYC residents who always manage to find the coolest versions of the classic sneakers we know and love.
Next up, all the affordable buys our editors are recommending for spring.
