The summer sales are in full swing, and there are so many incredible finds sitting in them. After shopping many sales myself and regretting some impulse purchases, I've adopted a strategy for navigating the sales that always leaves me happy with everything I've ordered. Rather than adding trendy finds or seasonal purchases into my shopping cart, I stick with timeless pieces and elevated staples that I know will serve my wardrobe well for a long time ahead. My style veers on the classic side, so this strategy is a no-brainer for my closet, but I always recommend it to anyone who is looking to make smart buys when the sales hit.

Now that the epic Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has dropped, I scoured the thousands of marked-down pieces to pull together a tight edit of what I would add to my personal shopping cart. From cool sneakers and cashmere sweaters to iconic sunglasses and satin slip dresses, these are the 29 sale items that made the cut.
