From Wide-Leg Styles to Cargos, These Are the Trouser Trends H&M Is Backing
Finding well-fitting trousers at an affordable price feels like an eternal struggle. Personally, I've found that if something fits snug around my waist, more often than not it'll be too tight on my hips. And sizing up means having an awkward gap around my waist. For a long time, I swore them off and stuck to dresses and skirts.
But with all the tempting trouser trends that have ignited over the past few seasons, I've been forced to reconsider. From puddle pants to low-slung cargos, it feels like there are no rules in the trouser department. And according to trend forecasts, this refreshed wardrobe staple is proving just as popular in 2023.
This doesn't scare me, because luckily, my trouser woes are in the past—all thanks to one high street brand in particular: H&M. While there's a bit of trial and error involved, I've found that it's easier to find a comfortable, beautifully-cut pair here than at any other high street store. And it caters to a wide spectrum of sizes; the Plus range goes up to a 4XL. It's easier if I show you—scroll on for the five big trouser trends H&M is backing now.
1. Wide-Leg Trousers
We've discussed H&M's wide-leg silhouettes over the past few months (our editor Emily even reviewed each pair!). Personally, I own two pairs so I can vouch for their quality and versatility. My favourite way to style mine right now is with a cropped jumper, long coat and Converse.

2. Leather Trousers
This shouldn't be news to you at this point in the season, but leather is major. Despite luxury labels like Loewe and Joseph backing the trend, you don't have to empty your savings to buy a great pair of leather trousers—just look to H&M's faux and real styles.

Unsure about the leather trend? Dip your toe in with this affordable faux option.
3. Cargo Trousers
Love it or hate it, the cargo trend is sticking around for spring. If you're on the fence, H&M's wearable iterations should convince you they're worth a try. Slot them into outfits where you would usually wear jeans to change things up a bit.

I'd wear these with a black turtleneck and heeled boots to give them a smarter feel.
4. Printed Trousers
Even minimal dressers will find a pair of printed trousers for them at H&M, whether it's a thin pinstripe or bold animal motif. Keep the rest of your outfit simple, or try ‘clashing’ prints in similar colourways.

5. Puddle Pants
2022 was the year of the puddle pant, and we see them being just as popular as we move into spring. When it comes to picking your ideal pair, only one rule applies: the looser and comfier the trouser, the better.
