Joseph Altuzarra's Windswept Old Navy Collection Yearns for the Moors of Scotland

"This is one of my favorite pieces," luxury designer Joseph Altuzarra says, singling out the Scarf Maxi Dress from his Old Navy x Altuzarra collection, which marks the third installment of Old Navy's American designer collaborations, following partnerships with Anna Sui and Christopher John Rogers.
Treating it "like a capital 'F' fashion," Altuzarra reveals he approached the Old Navy partnership the same way as his eponymous ready-to-wear label. "I often start my own collections with a book as the inspiration," he tells us. "I had just read 'Wuthering Heights' and 'Pride and Prejudice.' I really imagine this collection on a windswept Scottish moor," he adds.
Old Navy x Altuzarra blends the theatrical storytelling of Altuzarra's collections with Old Navy's heritage, transporting you to the rolling hills of Scotland, weaving Victorian literary references into a thoughtful fall wardrobe of velvet floral dresses, Fair Isle sweaters, and embroidered barn jackets.

"There’s this slight 90s grunge feeling to some of the collection. I love the idea of these tiered skirts that are windswept and feel a little bit bohemian," says Altuzarra. Casting Alexa Chung in the campaign ensures the grunge undertones won't go unnoticed; after all, no name is more synonymous with Indie Grunge.
Alongside Chung's cool-girl aura, Altuzarra brought a certain "controversial" runway trend to Old Navy: balloon pants. "This was something that we introduced in our own collection," Altuzarra clarifies, in his S/S 26 runway. "I love the idea of bringing it to the Old Navy customer," the designer adds.
A first for the Old Navy collaboration series, Old Navy x Altuzarra features matching women's, girls', and toddler pieces. "I have kids. So I was excited to be able to create some pieces for two of my kids, for the girls," Altuzarra shares.
