This "Dated" Shoe Trend Has Made a Huge Comeback This Summer—5 Chic Ways It Girls Are Wearing It Now
The shoe trend we never thought we'd wear again is back on the fashion agenda, and it's surprisingly easy to style. Scroll on to see the wedge-sandal outfits I've bookmarked for summer 2026.
I remember when the beloved wedge trend died a death. It was 2019, and we were just coming out of a summer dominated by wedges. Castañer's famous espadrille style adorned the feet of every bridesmaid and wedding guest, whilst cork-soled versions became the go-to shoe to wear with ditsy floral wrap dresses and wide-leg jeans. Like with a lot of trends that become oversaturated, we got the ick and wedges were swiftly demoted to "uncool" status. In 2023, Khaite and Balenciaga redefined the style with pairs that were sculptural, patent and pointed, and in 2024 Chloé's wedge-wearing front row went viral, but both comebacks lacked staying power.
This time, things are different. The key to a good comeback is offering variety and versatility, and that's exactly what the wedge is bringing this summer. From evening-appropriate wedge mules to casual platform wedge flip-flops, there's a pair for every style and occasion.
If you're wondering how to style them, I've compiled an edit of five great outfits that show how easy they are to incorporate into your summer wardrobe. Read on to discover.
5 Ways to Style Wedges in Summer 2026
1. Wedge Thong Sandals + Tank Top + Capri Trousers
Style Notes: This particular style has seen a resurgence thanks to another of summer's shoe trends: the elevated flip-flop. Foamy, platformed and so '90s-coded, they're the perfect shoe to add to capri pants. Keep your look subtle with plain colourways, or lean into the '90s vibe and opt for an embellished pair.

2. Wedge Thong Sandals + Halterneck Top + Sarouel Trousers
Style Notes: Trust in a pair of sleek thong wedge sandals to contrast beautifully with the volume of sarouel trousers, whilst also adding some subtle height. Keep the rest of the outfit sleek and minimal, but play around with textures.

3. Wedge Mules + Printed Minidress + Mini Bag
Style Notes: Leopard-print heels are a staple in any maximalist's wardrobe, and a wedge silhouette adds another layer of interest. If you love a print clash, then a scarf print will always work alongside leopard. Just remember to keep accessories pared-back so as not to overwhelm the look.

4. Slip Dress + Suede Wedge Sandals + Canvas Bag
Style Notes: Grunge checks are another '90s trend currently experiencing a revival, and turns out they work well with wedges. The slip dress can be quite hard to style when it comes to footwear, especially if you don't want the look to lean too typically "feminine", but a check print allows for a bolder shoe—go for it!

5. Polo Shirt + Lace-Hem Skirt + Wedge Pumps
Style Notes: I've never been a fan of a classic black pump, but these I can get behind. The rounded toe has a vintage feel, whilst the curved wedge heel brings a subtle edge that instantly elevates. This whole look is a mix of contrasts, from the green and pink colour blocking to the polo shirt and lace-hem skirt pairing, and the wedge pump helps bring them all together.
