I've said it before, and I'll say it again: My aunt is one of my biggest style inspirations. I've never seen her looking anything short of ultra chic and pulled together, so it should come as no surprise when I tell you that with her background in retail and merchandising, it's her job to help people find their personal style. Practically everyone in our family goes to her for style advice (myself included). Since we both work in fashion, I'm constantly texting her about everything from the coolest trends to know to what I'm considering buying.

We're both denim loyalists and will take any opportunity to make them look as fresh as possible for the current season. So I thought it would be fun to see where our alliances overlap and put together a list of trendier items for winter 2023 that we're both wearing with our jeans right now. Since we represent different generations, we're each gravitating toward our own jeans style (she'll be wearing her favorite pair of wide-leg jeans, and I'll be sticking to my beloved relaxed style), but at least we can agree on how to style them.

Below, see which six winter trends we're pairing with our go-to denim.

'80s Jackets

As style people, we both agree that a great blazer is a wardrobe must. Right now, we're both loving the '80s blazer trend defined by a structured look, sharp shoulders, and ornate gold finishings.

Elegant Flats

Everyone is wearing flats with jeans this winter, and that's a fact. My aunt is picky when it comes to them and told me she's focusing on sleek point-toe and Mary Jane styles.

Cherry-Red Sweaters

Cherry red is the talk of the town this season, and we both agreed that the easiest way to wear it for the winter is via a classic pullover sweater or cardigan because it's a piece that pairs flawlessly with denim and trousers alike.

Quiet-Luxury Belts

I wasn't surprised to hear that quiet luxury is just as much of a buzzword in her office as it is in mine. My aunt admitted to feeling exhausted by all the in-your-face logo belts and has been reaching for classic ones with understated hardware instead. She insisted I feature the ones from J.Crew because she just popped into the store last week and left with two of their belts.

Silk Blouses

With all things '80s and corporate dress codes coming back right now, it should come as no surprise that we're seeing much more silk and satin pieces, especially satin blouses. I find them to be a refreshing alt to stiff poplin shirts, and my aunt does, too. She just bought a button-down style in three colors to anchor her winter wardrobe.

Loafers

While we were on the topic of flats, loafers came up a lot. My aunt prefers styles with a sturdier lug-sole bottom while I lean more toward sleeker penny loafers. Regardless, we agreed that they're not a shoe that's going anywhere, and we're both relying on them even more this winter to wear with sweaters and jeans.
