Years ago when I moved to New York to pursue a job as a fashion editor, I often thought about Carrie Bradshaw and her path from newspaper columnist to fashion writer. I watched Sex and the City as much for the story line and the career aspiration as I did for the outfits, often reinterpreting them myself, whether it meant tracking down a vintage Dior Saddle Bag or a pair of strappy Manolos into my wardrobe.

While rewatching SATC at home during this time of social distancing, my perspective has shifted a bit. I now find myself identifying with Carrie as a writer working from a laptop in her living room, and it occurred to me how many great at-home outfits she wears throughout the series. She has a range of amazing cozy outfits crafted from closet basics like button-down shirts and leggings (which will further inspire how I’m wearing leggings at home) but also looks that feel a bit more dressed-up. Scroll on to see some of Carrie Bradshaw’s most iconic at-home looks that she would still wear today.

The first rule I learned from Carrie Bradshaw's working-from-home looks? Stick to the basics. Here, she's wearing a simple nude camisole and her signature "Carrie" necklace—building-block pieces that work here but are endlessly versatile for a number of other outfits as well.

Here's another work-from-home look, but this one takes that fashion factor up a few notches, all the while including pieces you probably have at home already. The key to this outfit is the oversize button-down shirt, which can be pulled off by wearing one a few sizes up.

I've personally been enjoying dressing up a bit at home, and Carrie would certainly throw on a dress for dinner in—nothing too over the top, but something comfortable and cool like this Reformation black minidress with shoulder pads.

Carrie loves a great slip dress, so it's no surprise that she owns an amazing lingerie version trimmed in pretty lace. I found a nearly identical one to pull off this exact look.

Recently, leggings as pants have become a core part of my wardrobe, and I'm continuing to look for new ways to style them. It doesn't get easier than pairing slit leggings with a cozy long cardigan.
