Age clearly has absolutely nothing to do with what you should or shouldn’t buy. That said, we often turn to women in the over-40 bracket, in particular, for some of those especially primo shopping recommendations given their fashion expertise in building well-rounded wardrobes over the years. While we recently highlighted the knit-wear sets and wardrobe basics women over 40 are gravitating toward at the moment, we thought you’d be curious about the pieces this set is specifically shopping for at one of our (and probably your) go-to retailers: Nordstrom.
And to dive into the matter, I decided to tap my stylish 60-year-old mother to give insight into the basic trends she and her friends are currently on the hunt for at Nordstrom—the retailer she loves because “they have everything for anyone with any style.”
Curious about her shopping list? Keep scrolling to check out the closet essentials she's stocking up on, along with inspired shopping picks for each that could work for anyone at any age.
"I have a few regular cardigans but want to try one of the longer styles I see people wearing. I like the style because they seem 'fashiony,' but are also practical to keep warm."
"I'm still on the hunt for straight-leg jeans to wear in addition to my go-to skinny jeans. I know Nordstrom has a great denim department, so I often check the site first or go into my local store in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for my jean purchases."
"I need a new LBD to wear eventually. I have a standard sheath option but am interested in something different like a wrap pick."
Classic White T-Shirts
"Okay, this may not be the most exciting purchase, but I actually need a few new white T-shirts to replace some dingy ones in my closet. I like to layer white tees with cardigans in the winter and wear on their own with jeans in the spring."
"I don't know if you'd consider snakeskin boots a 'basic,' but they seem like they can honestly kind of go with anything, so I'm curious about testing them out. But I'll admit I typically just go for standard black boots, so these will be a departure for me. But I'm ready."
