It's February, and I'm Officially in an Outfit Rut, But These Looks Will Save Me
I don't know about you, but I've got some serious February fashion blues. After a whirlwind last couple of months of holiday parties that required dressing up and a frenzied start to the new year, the unsettling reality of winter is now setting in. Even though I would love to hibernate inside, wearing my favorite pajamas or sweat sets on repeat, my busy new-year schedule has other plans in mind. To get out of my wardrobe rut, I went straight to my favorite fashion sources for a little style inspiration. We all need a little pick-me-up now and again.
Since I like to keep my looks easy and classic the majority of the time, these six winter outfits offer just that. They're extremely stylish but not terribly stuffy. Think tailored outerwear, cozy knits, and—my personal favorite—wide-leg trouser pants. (Pro tip: Trust this New Yorker; they are great for layering leggings, knee-high socks, or boots under in the winter for extra warmth.) When it comes to footwear, I am keeping things simple. Flat shoes, like vintage sneakers and lots of loafers, will keep me comfy and on the move in style. Since I am certain these outfits will be on regular rotation for me all month, I don't mind sharing the ideas with you. Go ahead and make these six best looks for February your own.
Après-Ski Cozy & Chic
Whether you are hitting the slopes or not, lean into soft and cozy basics to see you through the next few weeks of winter. An oversize coat, a cable-knit sweater, slouchy trousers, and retro sneakers make an impossibly easy and effortless combination.
Trousers don't have to be reserved for weekday office visits. These will be just as cool with sneakers on the weekend.
They're a classic for a reason. All you need are warm wool socks to complete the mix.
Toughen up a softly textured look with a little something metallic to add a little edge.
Prep-School Cool
Give those tried-and-true prepster basics some love. A striped button-down, a shrunken sweater-vest, a miniskirt, and loafers just feel so right. The final touch? Simply add graphic loafers and a shoulder bag.
This one comes in plus-sizes too!
Supple leather in a clean bag shape gets a big yes from us.
Leather Weather
If you haven't leaned into the distressed-leather-jacket trend yet, now is the time. I love it styled with Y2K-influenced basics (low-slung trousers, anyone?), plus a few wintry accessories, such as a cozy beanie and skinny scarf, to top things off.
This is a splurge that is well worth it. You will live in this leather jacket season after season.
Ditch the basic black beanie for a neutral-toned striped version.
It's all about shoes with square toes right now, and the block heel on these boots is actually walkable.
Denim Dos
Give a denim maxi skirt the winter redux with plenty of weather-appropriate layers. Tailored outerwear and a cozy knit meet their match when paired with pointy leather boots and a textured mini bag.
You will be pleasantly surprised by how versatile this denim maxi skirt is.
Serious Shearling
Shearling jackets are winter-wardrobe workhorses that somehow can make any outfit look a little more pulled-together, even sneakers and jeans. I recommend adding '90s-inspired accessories to keep the styling modern.
These shoes were made for walking—whether that be running errands or a long walk in the park.
Texture Play
Right now, I can't get enough of corduroy pants. A relaxed carpenter shape is the way to do it. Simply pair with a slouchy knit and penny loafers for an everyday approach. Add a little whimsy with a playful phone strap to spice things up.
I never knew how bad I needed carpenter corduroy pants until I saw these.
These aren't the penny loafers from your school days. The sleek design makes them feel fresh and updated.
Dress up your phone with this playful strap from X-Girl's cute collab with designer Vanna Youngstein.
