"Collagen supplements, on the other hand, are taken orally, usually in the form of hydrolysed collagen peptides. These peptides are broken down in the gut and can act as building blocks and signals to stimulate the body’s own collagen production," adds Dr Shotter.
Clinical studies suggest that consistent use of certain high-quality collagen supplements over 8–12 weeks can improve skin elasticity, hydration and wrinkle depth.
