ICYMI, This Viral Dessert-Inspired Fragrance Just Got a Major Upgrade
At this point in the game, Phlur has so many body mists and perfumes that top the Who What Wear team's favorites list. From the brand's cult-loved Missing Person to gourmands like Vanilla Skin, the brand truly has something for everyone. Aside from those popular EDP's, the brand also launched one of my favorite body mists a couple years ago: Heavy Cream. Honestly, it was the fragrance that got me back into body mists. Previously, I hadn't touched them since my mall-trolling days at Victoria's Secret in the early 2000s.
The name alone was enough to hook me—I'm never one to turn down a gourmand, treat-inspired fragrance and that one became one of my most-worn in record time. Fast forward a few years and here we are! Phlur finally just released an eau de parfum version of the Heavy Cream scent and it's everything I could have hoped for and more. Body mists are cute and fun, of course, but there's nothing like an ultra-concentrated EDP to really get me going. Not only that, the brand also gifted us with a luxurious, Heavy Cream-scented body butter to go with it. Trust me when I say that gourmand lovers do not want to sleep on these launches.
Phlur Heavy Cream
Key notes: sparkling lemon, vanilla mousse, orange flower. white orchid, tiare flower, amber woods, creamy musk
In case you didn't know, Phlur founder Chrishelle Lim previously told Who What Wear that this scent was inspired by none other than viral sweet treat connoisseur Nara Smith. After admiring one too many of Smith's creations on her FYP, she was inspired to create something just as delicious (smelling, that is). The body mist already has good projection, but this eau de parfum is designed to be an amplified version—richer and longer lasting.
The first spray of this is just gorgeous. While the sparkling lemon notes were the first thing I picked up, once it dried down, it's sweet, floral, and creamy in the best way. I also love that the brand included notes of tiare flower in here. Tiara flower is a key note in one of my all time favorite perfumes (Ellis Brooklyn's Salt Eau de Parfum) and it gives any fragrance almost a tropical sweetness that I'm so obsessed with. paired with the amber, musk, and vanilla mousse notes, it's such a unique take on heavy cream and an elevated one I've come to expect from Phlur.
Wearing this body cream with the EDP is the easiest way to layer your perfumes. It amplifies the heavy cream scent in the best way while enveloping your skin in a rich layer of silky hydration. Not only does it smell exactly like the perfume (not always the case with fan favorite fragrance-scented body creams), it's perfect for the winter season. It contains shea and cocoa butter to really nourish those dry patches along with super hydrators like glycerin and squalane. As a bonus, prickly pear extract and green tea in the formula provide antioxidant protection and promote healthier skin over time.
The O.G. that started it all. Phlur's Heavy Cream Body Mist is such a treat. Comparing it with the EDP, I did notice, however, that the EDP does last longer on the skin and has a bit more projection to it which, no surprise there. Basically, the body mist is great for my ballers on a budget. $39 is definitely cheaper than $99 for the EDP. So, if you really want to snag the scent but don't want to spend a lot, I'd start here. However, if you do have the means later on, I highly recommend the EDP version—it just takes the scent up a notch in a way that the mist was missing slightly.
More Sweet Treat-Inspired Fragrances I Love
Key notes: rum-soaked cake, davana flower, creme chantilly, oakwood
Anecdotes by Artists is a pretty new fragrance brand on the scene, and I can't get enough of all three of their launches. If you like something that's sweet but at the same time, a little richer and smokier, this fragrance is definitely for you.
Key notes: golden apple pie, aged bourbon, warm amber
This gourmand fragrance from The 7 Virtues smells like happiness—period. The golden apple pie note gives it a sparkly quality that I love. It's such an easy wear too and I always get compliments when I spritz it on.
Key notes: almond cream, croissant accord, powdered sugar, vanilla, buttery musks, creamy sandalwood
I loved Snif's O.G. Crumb Couture fragrance when it launched, but this almond rendition is pure perfection. I love almond as a fragrance note and the level of gourmand here is just right.
Key notes: rhubarb stalks, strawberry peach jam, sensual musk, sandalwood
This is one of my favorite Henry Rose launches to date. I'm such a sucker for a good fruity-gourmand scent and this one is exactly that. It has a sweet, jammy quality to it too that makes it so unique and delicious.
Key notes: sugared lemon, orange zest, almond milk, freesia, orange blossom, tiger orchid, dark chocolate bean, vanilla, sandalwood, caramelized amber, patchouli, fluffy musk
It only made sense that Sabrina Carpenter would drop treat-inspired perfumes and this one is my absolute fave of the bunch. It's such a great budget option, but smells just as gorgeous as the more expensive gourmands I tend to snag at Sephora.
Key notes: strawberry, pink marshmallow, whipped vanilla
This Kayali classic never gets old. Marshmallow can be a tricky note because it tends to overwhelm the rest of the fragrance, but this is so artfully crafted. It has the perfect amount of sweetness mixed with the slightly tart scent of strawberry. Truly a forever fave for me.
