The World’s Comfiest Sneaker Is Now the Most Sustainable Too

This feature is dedicated to our #NoChangeNoFuture initiative. From the Women’s March, to Australia voting yes to same sex marriage, and the #MeToo movement, 2017 taught us to look beyond ourselves and come together as a collective of powerful women who are writing our own history.

We’ve already dubbed them “the comfiest sneakers ever”, and chances are that anyone who has experienced the merino wool in these shoes would likely agree. Based in New Zealand, Allbirds is likeable for so many reasons: The shoes are comfortable, the price is right, the style is cool, and brand is based close to home. But today, Allbirds is giving us another reason to love its sneakers.

With a new collection, Tree, Allbirds is now making shoes from a textile created from Eucalyptus pulp. According to the brand’s founders: “This material doesn’t compromise for comfort or for the environment, and we’re excited to challenge industry norms via material innovation once and again.” Already known for using recycled materials in it’s designs, the brand has proven that fashion can, and should, have a social and environmental conscious—which is something that we believe in as well.

Though the industry has a long way to go in terms of sustainability, Allbirds is doing its part to make a difference, and we hope that other brands will catch on. While it’s impossible to change the world all at once, it’s important to remember to make small changes where you can.

And thankfully, these Tree shoes are an easy way of achieving this. Without compromising comfort or style, Allbirds is leading by example and proving that sustainability is fashionable—we’d be lying if we said that’s not enough to make us want to buy the runners in every single colour.
