The Reason Women Wear Engagement Rings on Their Left Hands
When a woman is getting engaged, there's often one big thing on her mind—the ring. It's an exciting process to think about what will be one of the most important pieces of jewelry in your life. Plus, they're just so darn pretty to look at. However, have you ever stopped to think about where the tradition of the engagement ring came from? Or why we wear them on our left hands specifically? While the story of the ring itself is a bit more obvious as a symbol of becoming betrothed, the answer to the latter question is a bit more emotional. Thanks to our friends over at Marie Claire, we finally know the answer. Apparently ancient Greek and Roman people believed that the "vena amoris" connected the ring finger directly to the heart. So romantic.
