To me, a tricky trend is nothing but an exciting challenge. As trends ebb and flow, not all can become classics or stay trendy. Thus the "untrendy" trends or, as I'd prefer to call them, tricky trends. Fashion is more risqué than ever it seems, so there are plenty of risk-forward trends to keep your wardrobe fresh.

As a fashion editor, I closely follow the pipeline from the runways to the sidewalks. Below, I've compiled a list of the untrendiest of trends that you'll want to pay attention to this upcoming year. These range from grungy moto boots to tailored cropped blazers and everything in between. Shop along to join me in challenging these tricky trends.

White Purses

Most people own a black and/or brown bag that serves as a classic go-to. However, a white bag is a less common, yet still neutral, piece that can change up your everyday looks.

Cropped Blazers

A classic blazer is always in, but this tailored, cropped version is the perfect update. Pair casually with jeans or more formally with a coordinated skirt.

Mesh Shoes

Mesh shoes are at the top of my untrendy trends list. The transparent material has been everywhere from embellished flats to pointy pumps.

Boxers

Menswear-inpsired trends make for the perfect untrendy trend. Boxer shorts, whether worn alone or under jeans or trousers, are a fun yet risky trend that serves for both warmer and colder seasons.

Moto Boots

One of my favorite shoe trends that has been popping up everywhere is the grungy moto boot. A tougher substitute to the combat boot, these rugged stompers are as untrendy as they are trendy.
