Trust Me—You'll Want to Start Wearing These 5 Summer Trends Immediately
Each season, we spend hours (sometimes even days) reviewing runway looks from New York Fashion Week to curate our highly anticipated trend reports. And truthfully, we love creating them just as much as you love reading them. But we also know that implementing runway trends in your everyday wardrobe can be, well, intimidating. So this year for the first time ever, we headed into a studio to style and shoot five of the best spring/summer 2023 trends. These trends are not only editor favorites but also highly wearable (read: practical). Don't worry—we'll show you how it's done.
Tie-dye? For summer? You've seen it before, but we're not talking about the juvenile iterations reminiscent of children's art projects—tie-dye is much more elevated this season. Think two or three hues max in thoughtfully brushed strokes, not paint splatters. Jonathan Simkhai, Peter Do, and everyone's favorite Prada are a just a few designers who revealed modern tie-dyed pieces on the runways, and we're here for it. We're wearing the trend with vacation-ready accessories such as raffia sandals whether or not we're anywhere near the beach.
I love a bold, striking hue, and summer 2023 is all about this bright cherry red. Sure, incorporating a red accessory into your look is a no-brainer, but we're not ones for the easy way out. Instead, take it up a notch with a head-to-toe red look à la the Victoria Beckham and Ferragamo shows. This Staud maxi dress makes the job easy, but it's the addition of the Simon Miller clogs that give this look that statement appeal. (There's a matching bag, FYI.)
It felt like nearly every major designer featured crochet in some way or another this year. Jil Sander, Elie Saab, Victoria Beckham, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, Chloé—they all did it. And crochet really got an upgrade. Think more chic, less bohemian. Definitely pack this trend for your summer travels, but don't be afraid to wear it in the city, too. To elevate this otherwise casual fabric even more, we're fans of layering on a ton of gold (or rose gold!) jewelry.
Speaking of gold, the metallic trend is taking over. Gabriella Hearst, Altuzarra, Tory Burch, and many more designers proved that metallics are no longer to be reserved for the holiday season or formal events. We're especially loving silver, but all shiny shades are fair game. Dip your toe in the trend by replacing your denim with silver jeans or a miniskirt (like we did here), and keep the rest of your outfit neutral and simple.
With top fashion houses such as Dior designing jeans, we're seeing more and more cool denim trends. For spring 2023, designers made it clear where they stood: The baggier the jeans the better. That either means sizing up in your favorite pair or opting for styles that are intentionally more voluminous (e.g. balloon jeans). Since we love a denim-on-denim moment, this Agolde set, which incorporates an oversize denim top, felt just right. Sleek heels elevate the look a bit, but if sneakers, loafers, or even flat sandals are more your vibe, we won't stop you.
