The Co-Founder of Vitruvi Breaks Down Every Aroma She Uses to Unwind at Night

It's no secret that we love a good morning routine. We've come to learn, however, that the rituals we do to wind down before bed are just as important. Whether you take 10 minutes or a few hours, it's precious time that you have set aside at the end of the day to take care of yourself. Our series Weekend Wind-Down highlights the nightly routines of the people we admire.

We’ve waxed on about the benefits of essential oil diffusers and aromatherapy in the past, and we can definitely count Vitruvi as one of our perennial favorite brands. Its sleek stone diffusers are both aesthetically pleasing as home décor and practical for your overall self-care routine. According to Sara Panton, the brand's co-founder and CEO, changing up her home scent every evening helps to "set the stage" to begin the process of winding down for the day. Ahead, she walks us through exactly which grounding and soothing essential oils she uses for her nighttime routine as well as the rest of her daily self-care rituals. 

6 P.M.

Since I’ve been spending more time at home, I like to change my aroma every evening in my living room to set the stage. Using grounding essential oils in my new Vitruvi Stay diffuser helps my brain and body know it’s time to start winding down. I use frankincense and our Ceremony Blend, which has palo santo in it for good vibes only.

7 P.M.

I spend a lot of my day at the computer, so doing a yoga flow or workout in the evening is essential, especially if I haven’t worked out in the morning. I like to switch it up and listen to my body, depending on how I’m feeling. I love Alexandra Mazerolle on Open for yoga and House of A La Ligne and Melissa Wood for pilates!

All of these teachers help me get out of my busy brain and back into my body and breath.

8 P.M.

I try to let my body digest after 8 p.m. and switch to drinking tea for the rest of the evening. I love tea from The Factory in Tofino, BC. I switch between Living Apothecary in Detoxify and Vitalize.

I usually work for a couple of hours in the evening. I know that screen time is bad before bed, but I work hard to get most things off my to-do list before bed so I can start the day fresh. This has been a habit of mine since starting Vitruvi five years ago.

I usually diffuse our Nightcap Blend in my diffuser as the sun sets.

9:15 P.M.

Dry-brushing with my brush from Merge in Tofino, followed by Osea’s Body Oil and a robe by Parachute. This routine supports circulation and helps me transition to bedtime.

11 P.M.

I crawl into bed with cozy linens from my friends at Parachute. I love adding lavender oil to dryer balls when I wash them to infuse the sheets with a relaxing aroma.
