I know what you're thinking. We've only just passed the halfway mark of the year—how can we be talking about 2024 already? The answer is simple: Fashion plans ahead. In this case, way ahead. But if you ask us, it's never too soon to start planning for the season(s) ahead so you can audit your own wardrobe and, if you so please, shop accordingly. The first step to being prepared is to do your research, which is where we come in.

Designers finished presenting their resort 2024 collections this month, and while the season mostly serves to bridge the gap between fall and spring, it also happens to hit the market in the winter, which means the pieces from these collections will be some of the first ones we'll be shopping at the start of the year. The resort collection was originally created for jet-setting customers to shop for their winter vacations, but now, the name is often interchangeable with pre-spring, and it's no longer exclusive to those planning wintertime escapes. In fact, designers tend to have different interpretations of what a resort collection should be, but this year, we spotted several common threads throughout—whether it was a new neutral color trend, an exciting dress silhouette, or a statement outerwear style.

Without further ado, we're now presenting the seven major resort 2024 trends that'll kick off the year on an especially stylish note.

Burgundy is set to become the new neutral everyone will gravitate toward in 2024. Spotted at Christopher John Rogers, Rabanne, and Stella McCartney, the rich shade looks extremely elevated in virtually any form it comes in, whether it be slinky maxi dress, sumptuous knit, or tailored suit. It's may be a quintessentially cold-weather color, but I predict fashion folks won't wait to start adopting it.

Call it the Kylie Jenner effect, but we're predicting halter dresses will be the next It style. Long, sinewy shapes dominated the resort collections, and they all featured the same silhouette—a halter neckline and low, open back that's both sophisticated and a bit sultry. Get ready talk about, shop for, and wear these dresses all of 2024.

Matching skirt sets were everywhere we looked, especially in rich suede, and the duos featured a long skirt with a slouchy jacket in a coordinating shade of caramel, camel, or cerulean.

Sheer is here to stay—shocker—and the resort 2024 collections all point to the same way to wear it: via a delicate skirt styled with classic staples that offset its sultry feel.

I'll admit it—I was once a hater of fit-and-flare dresses. The fitted waist and full skirt just felt too sweet for my personal style, yet here I am, writing my apology letter to the style. I'm seeing A-line shapes start to trend with elevated takes at Brandon Maxwell and Carolina Herrera, and for once, I'm not opposed to the idea of wearing one.

Silver shoes and bags were especially hot this year, but now, we have confirmation that the hue will continue to be a major trend well into 2024. According to the resort collections, ready-to-wear, from outerwear to jeans and skirts, is about to get the tinfoil finish too.

Just like the nipped-waist blazers we reported on for fall 2023, coats are likewise getting a hefty dose of tailoring with sharp, strong shoulders and defined waistlines that create an hourglass silhouette.

Fluffy, furry outwear is about to have a huge moment this winter, and it makes for the ultimate "Who is she?" moment.
