I Made It My Personal Mission to Find the Chicest Plus-Size Coats—25 I Adore
As a plus-size editor, I've done tremendous work over the years of curating a thoughtful yet stylish wardrobe full of trend-forward pieces and chic essentials that rival the closets of some of my straight-sized friends. With limited options at my disposal since I'm above a size US 12, there are only so many options I can choose from. Thankfully, as more and more of my favorite brands and stores embrace size inclusivity, the amount of trendy, cute clothing keeps on going up. While it may be bad for my wallet (whoops!), it certainly isn't bad for the thousands of chic plus-size shoppers who are looking for clothing that isn't boring, plain, or downright ill-fitting.
Now that winter is right around the corner and I'm swapping my light cardigans for heavy-duty outerwear, I've spent hours online tracking down the best plus-size coats and trendy size-inclusive outerwear options. Below, shop 25 trendy plus-size coats—from runway-inspired looks to quiet luxury–esque styles—if you're itching for something cute to wear as the weather gets colder.
Okay, this coat technically isn't labeled as plus-size, but new options at Toteme are coming in up to an EU 44/a US 14. Thanks to Toteme's signature oversize shape and the generous cut of this coat, it tops the list as one of my favorites. For reference, I'm anywhere between a US 16 and 18, and this coat gives me plenty of space to layer under. If you're searching for a luxe, size-inclusive find, look no further.
This is another coat I love thanks to its universally flattering cut and ability to look vintage and timeless. This is the piece I throw over every outfit when I don't know what to wear in the winter, and yep, it makes everything look 10 times chicer.
This under-$200 Mango coat has to be one of the best all-black plus-size coat options out there. Not only is the cut quite slim and flattering, but it also keeps you looking extra sharp and tailored if you're tired of the too-baggy look tons of plus-size garments rely on.
After seeing red all over the fall/winter 2023 runways, our editors have decided it's the color to incorporate into your wardrobe. While it's often hard to find trend-forward pieces as a plus-size shopper, buying this coat certainly is an easy decision to make. Plus, it's just shy of $100.
If you're looking for the weathered moto look Miu Miu has perfected over the last few seasons in your size, may I suggest this swoon-worthy sherpa-lined motorcycle jacket?
My jaw dropped when I saw this coat was under $100. It's incredibly chic for being faux leather, and the size range is incredibly generous.
As a lover of all things Madewell, I have to admit this trench coat I own from the U.S.-based brand has to be one of the best things I have. Not only is it uniquely versatile and incredibly on-trend thanks to the quiet-luxury movement that's sweeping trend cycles well into the winter, but it also keeps me warm without feeling too bulky. If that isn't a good enough reason to buy it, I don't know what is.
This fuzzy teddy coat looks extra cozy for those days when you simply don't want to get out of bed.
The entire monochromatic vibe of this 'fit is right up there on my winter mood board when it comes to chic going-out outfits. Plus, the croc effect on this chocolate leather coat makes it look extra expensive.
This coat comes in up to a 4X—an incredible step in the right direction for such a massive retailer like H&M.
Don't just take it from me. Take it from our editor Jasmine: Fuzzy collars are set to be huge this winter.
If you're looking for a plus-size-friendly coat that's by no means boring, opt for this jaw-dropping oxblood-colored fringe coat by Eloquii in collaboration with Barkwood.
Quiet luxury to the max is immediately what comes to mind when I see this timeless cream-colored coat. Wear it with jeans or over a simple black minidress, but either way, it'll go with everything you own.
While so many trench coats seem to run in the camel-colored territory, this black trench is catching my eye thanks to how chic it feels and how water-resistant it is!
This simple faux-leather coat, complete with a delicate bow detail, might be one of the prettiest finds on this list.
Channel your inner chic grandpa with this retro-looking bouclé blazer. While it may be the shortest coat and/or jacket on this list, it scores major points given how cool it feels.
As one of the internet's buzziest brands at the moment, Djerf Avenue's approach to size inclusivity has to be my favorite, offering effortlessly chic options extending well past an extra-large (3X to be exact). The brand's trench coat has become an instant hit among the cool Gen Z crowd that looks up to the Scandi fashion scene for year-round style inspiration.
Who says plus-size coats have to be in plain colors? This patterned option is such a statement, working well with casual two-piece loungewear sets for an ultra-cool look.
I own this one, and yep, it's just as good IRL as it looks online.
High-tech performance meets stealth wealth with this chic all-white wrap coat. Gwyneth Paltrow would definitely approve!
Make a glittery statement in this mirrorball-inspired coat from Avec Les Filles.
Another faux-fur coat for your troubles—and it's well under $100.
Embrace the preppy-chic look with this black-and-white tartan coat.
