Are they leggings? Are they pants? The lines continue to get blurred. We’re seeing this play out in terms of how leggings are styled, as well as the designs themselves. On the F/W 23 runway, Miu Miu endorsed wearing leggings in place of pants, styling them with crewneck sweaters, hoodies, and tailored outerwear. The looks have permeated the fashion space and continue to shape how we see the style set wear leggings for everyday looks far beyond the gym.

As I mentioned, leggings are also crossing into the pant sphere more and more. High Sport’s kick flare pants are one of the most viral pieces amongst fashion insiders in recent memory and have created huge demand for the soft legging-pants. Brands include Ferragamo and Theory showed leggings with tailored finishes in their S/S 24 runway collections. Capri-length leggings, too, are dominating and we’re seeing them worn in dressy ways, styled with leather tops in Phillip Lim’s S/S 24 collection and with heels on the street style scene. Ahead, more on the 5 leggings trends set to dominate in 2024.

High Sport's viral pants set off the trend for kick flare pants. They are a piece that is as popular on the street style scene as they are for low-key outings, making them a cool, dressed-up version of leggings that are filling the place of sweatpants from years past.

On the S/S 24 runways, capri-length leggings were everywhere. Designers including Phillip Lim, Mirror Palais, and Theory showcased sophisticated ways to style them and we expect them to take over in the coming year.

Miu Miu's F/W 23 collection is one of the most talked-about runway shows in recent memory and the leggings-as-pants looks dominated that conversation. We've since seen that trickle over to the fashion set. This trend is less about a specific type of leggings and more about how they are styled—often with knits and tailored outerwear.

Leggings are truly getting dressier and dressier and crossing into the pants category in many ways. This included styles with tailored details—everything from zippers to belt loops to pleats.

One legging trend we can expect to never fade away? Sleek, black leggings. The classic style can be worn everywhere from the gym to the airport and will simply always be a wardrobe staple.
