When Karlie Kloss announced recently that she’d be forgoing her Victoria’s Secret Angel wings in order to take classes at New York University, we tried to mask all our sadness with praise. After all, we can definitely get behind a lady who’s making education her top priority, especially considering Kloss’s role model status. But that doesn’t mean we fully understood where the decision came from, as we wondered why now, at 22 and amidst a career high point, rather than a few years ago?
Well, Kloss happily cleared that up for us while speaking to Elle.com backstage at the Isabel Marant F/W 15 show. It turns out that she needed that extra time to realize just what was important to her, noting that:
"The more I travel, the more I realize I have so much to learn about the world. I'm such a nerd about science and math, did you know that? And history, culture, languages...Traveling so much has made me realize, I have to invest in myself. And that's what education is, I think: a great investment in me. And I need to find a balance between that and my career, so that's my project for fall."
See? Even celebs like Karlie Kloss don’t always follow a straight and narrow path, and she name-dropped a few of her own icons to prove it. “I think it’s possible to keep working while you go to school,” the model said, pointing out that, “Christy Turlington did it. Natalie Portman did it. Emma Watson just did it! And those are just women in the public eye, but plenty of others do it, too. You know, women around the world are great at multitasking. We do it well." Touché, Karlie, touché.
