I've Been Rethinking My Winter Wardrobe—These Are the Pieces I'd Actually Make Room For
H&M's new-in section never misses, and right now, it's particularly good. Scroll for the pieces I've already added to my basket.
Every year, there's a point in October when I start looking at my wardrobe and wondering how I'm going to make the same old pieces feel interesting again. The jeans are fine, the jumpers are good, and yet somehow, getting dressed feels like a bit of a chore. I've learnt that the answer isn't necessarily buying a whole new wardrobe (tempting as that is), but finding a few pieces that make everything else feel different. This season, I'm particularly drawn to rich brown tones, interesting textures and those slightly oversized silhouettes that make even the simplest outfit feel considered. I'm still very much a basics girl at heart, but I'm always up for something that feels a little less predictable, too.
Naturally, this has sent me down a bit of a shopping rabbit hole, looking for the pieces that will actually earn their place in my wardrobe rather than end up forgotten at the back of it. I'm talking about knitwear that works just as well with tailored trousers as with my favourite worn-in jeans and outerwear that can pull an outfit together in seconds. I've been keeping an eye on H&M's latest arrivals, and there are some genuinely good finds amongst the everyday essentials. It's the mix that appeals to me most: practical pieces I'll reach for on repeat, alongside a few more directional styles that feel current without being tied to one particular trend.
I've narrowed my edit down to a few pieces, and the idea is that each one brings something slightly different to the table. Some are the sort of dependable winter buys you probably already know you need; others are the pieces you might not have considered but will be glad you found when you're staring at your wardrobe on a cold Monday morning. I'd start with the foundations, then have a little fun with texture, proportion and accessories. After all, the outfits I tend to love most aren't necessarily the ones made up of the newest things, but the ones where a couple of thoughtful additions make everything I already own feel exciting again.
