September has a funny way of catching me out. I'm not quite ready to give up on the lighter pieces I've been wearing all summer, but there are definitely mornings when sandals feel optimistic and evenings when I wish I'd brought an extra layer. It's the kind of weather that makes getting dressed more complicated than it needs to be. Rather than reaching straight for heavy coats and chunky knits, I've been looking for the pieces that can do a bit of both: jeans that work with a vest now and a knit later, trousers that feel easy enough for daytime but can be dressed up, and cardigans that are useful layers rather than something you only pull out once the temperature really drops. Essentially, I'm after those clever wardrobe pieces that make this slightly unpredictable stretch of the year much easier to navigate. That's what brought me to Free People.
