We Ran to Nordstrom to Try On These Sale Items—Here's What We Left With
The office is abuzz with Nordstrom Anniversary Sale chatter, and we've all got our eyes on specific pieces. I'm snatching up every fall and winter coat I can get my hands on. If this upcoming winter is anything like the last, I'll be wearing a ton of outer layers, and I want variety. The sale includes classic trench coats, fringe, animal print, and cropped styles. There are even a few sporty anoraks and funnel-neck styles that are sure to be trending once summer is over. But enough about me—I'm passing the proverbial mic to three of my fellow NYC-based editors, who did some boots-on-the-ground reporting on the items included in the sale. To see (and steal) their discounted wish lists, keep reading.

"Since childhood, shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale with my mom has been my time to refresh my wardrobe and fill in any gaps. Instead of chasing fleeting trends or It items, I use the sale event to look for elevated basics that offer endless outfit combinations and are anything but boring. This technique helps me justify any big-ticket purchases because I know I'll get a lot of wear out of them. Take the denim outfit that I tried on, for example. While the frayed-hem jeans, fitted white tee, and striped button-down shirt create a great cohesive look, they can easily be styled with other pieces in my wardrobe. The jeans can pair beautifully with a lightweight sweater and pendant necklace, the button-down will complement high-waisted trousers, and the tee can layer perfectly under a trench coat with Bermuda shorts." — Nikki Chwatt, associate fashion editor

"I use the Anniversary Sale to stock up on all the important stuff first: beauty staples, jeans, and tees I'll wear on repeat. But every year, I also fall for one or two fun pieces, and this zebra-print dress was an immediate yes. It looks so much more expensive than it is, and I love that it's from a Nordstrom brand that always nails elevated fashion pieces. I already own the Staud Wally boots in black leather, so I know they're insanely comfortable. I've been wanting a suede pair, so when I saw this green version on sale, I didn't have to think twice. They're a pair I would've bought anyway, so getting them during the Anniversary Sale is just a bonus." — Anneliese Henderson, senior fashion editor, branded content

"My approach to the Anniversary Sale is to buy a mix of great everyday staples and investment-worthy finds. Denim is core to my wardrobe, so classic straight-leg jeans in a medium blue wash are a key buy, including this pair with a perfect medium-rise silhouette. The same can be said for T-shirts, which I regularly use as a base layer. I already know that this crewneck tee will be my new go-to staple. This suede jacket is another workhorse I'm planning to wear during the fall, but I couldn't resist adding it to my cart now." — Kristen Nichols, associate director, women & luxury
