Not Slingbacks—the Hyper-Specific Spring Shoe Trend Chic Women in New York Wear With Dresses
This upcoming spring, shoes are about to get extra freaky, at least as far as toes are involved. Flip-flops felt like the gateway to allowing toes to go a bit more mainstream. No, they aren't going anywhere, but you're about to see far more heeled options pop up as we head into proper spring. Heels are trending again after years of being pushed to the side in favor of conventionally comfortable options like ballet flats.
The increasing popularity of flip-flops and heels has led to the rise of peep-toe pumps, which are heels that feel cheeky and less serious than the standard. The shoes were all over the runway and now have been spotted on celebrities like Tessa Thompson.
While on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Thompson wore an Eckhaus Latta gossamer top and the gossamer skirt from its F/W 26 collection. She paired the simple look with sleek black shoes with a small hole at the tip for her toes to peek out from.
It's a look I've been seeing cool girls all over New York start to wear as the temperatures rise. It's an especially popular option for styling with otherwise simple spring dresses because it adds a fun note that's not as anticipated. It's a great option if you feel like flip-flops are too laid-back but still want to free the toes.
