I Think Ignoring These 7 Style Tips Could Make or Break a Good Outfit
Before I dive in, let me just reiterate that there’s honestly no such thing as a "good” outfit. You should wear whatever the heck makes you feel comfortable, no matter what anyone says (and yes, that includes me). That said, I do believe there are a few styling hacks to remember that could potentially elevate your day-to-day outfits if that’s of interest.
To be honest, I basically swear by these sartorial "rules” and preach them to whoever will listen—friends, family, and now you, dear readers.
To highlight further, I’m showcasing the style tricks I swear by below. For me, personally, ignoring these tips could have the power to make or break an outfit. So, hey, maybe keep them in your back pocket if you so desire. Keep scrolling for more and shop inspired wardrobe staples throughout to keep those outfits feelin’ fresh.
While it's totally based on personal preference, the smallest tweaks to a garment to ensure it fits you flawlessly could be worth it in my eyes. Yep, unless the garment is already all set from when you purchased it, shortening sleeves or taking in a jacket could make all the difference in taking your top-notch look just one step further.
Shop tailored pieces:
Yes, fashion is cyclical, and just about everything comes back at some time (ahem, ’90s fashion, anyone?), but I think it could always be beneficial to look into modern interpretations of the classic pieces you love to create chic outfits. For example, investing in a current take on the timeless crew-neck sweater (aka a slouchier one with balloon sleeves like this one here) could, in my opinion, make your outfit feel more forward.
Shop modern classics:
On the same vein as the "don’t forget the tailor rule” is another style trick to consider—ensuring your pant length works for your specific heel height. Now, don’t get me wrong—with bunchy jeans picking up steam, it’s actually now cool to have your denim slouch down over your shoes. But overall, if you’re looking for a more streamlined silhouette, you want to ensure you show off your beautiful shoes properly with the right pants. For example, if you’re wearing taller ankle boots, opt for a pair of cropped pants to highlight them even more. Stilettos and dress pants for a sophisticated look? Tailor the pants to either hit right above the ankle bone or break just under for a polished vibe.
Shop trousers and heels:
The easiest (and most fun) way to add personality to your outfit is with accessories. So at the end of the day, you should incorporate however many add-ons as you like. Sure, a few less may feel a tad more streamlined, but if you want to wear a hat, a chunky necklace, and a statement bag, just do it.
Shop fun accessories:
You should always consider highlighting your favorite attribute and wear what you adore and what makes you feel the most comfortable. So one of my biggest fashion "rules” of all time is to never ignore your silhouette. At the end of the day, just wear what you love.
Shop pieces that could balance out your silhouette:
In no way should you ever wear shoes that aren’t comfortable. Trust us—that foot pain is just not worth it. Sure, you may think that a pair of sky-high silhouettes will upgrade your formal look, but if that means you end the night with no shoes to relieve discomfort, they’re a no-go in my book. As someone who’s covered the best and worst shoes for your feet, according to a podiatrist, I know a comfortable pair of shoes is a must.
Shop more comfortable shoes:
At the end of the day, a "good” outfit means whatever feels good to you. If you embrace your style, cast aside all unnecessary feedback (yes, even mine), and dress for yourself (foregoing specific logos and brands just because they’re popular), you ultimately won’t look like you’re trying so hard. And, voilà—that end outfit result will be that much more stylish and fashion-forward.
