I'm in My Cozy-Girl Era—6 Comfy Trends I'm Prioritizing This Winter

I've always found it challenging to describe my style in three words. Some may call me indecisive, but I consider myself overtly conscious. But despite the struggle, there's one word I'm confident would be in my sartorial description—cozy. Why? I'm the girl who always needs a blanket on my legs to get any work done. I own sweatpants from The Frankie Shop and Staud because I consider them acceptable to wear out. I've worn my Mini Uggs almost every day in the past month. If there's something that'll feel like a warm hug, I'll take it. I might have prefaced this piece by saying I'm in my cozy-girl era, but in reality, it's become a lifestyle. And now that winter has come around, there are a few trends I'm putting at the front of the closet to keep my comfort levels thriving.

If your motto is comfort over everything, look no further. Below, I've rounded up six trends that meet my standards when it comes to easy and relaxed dressing. I'll give you a head start—expect built-in scarves, wool coats, and baggy striped sweaters. To see and shop them all, keep scrolling

1. Built-In Scarves

I wouldn't consider built-in scarves revolutionary, but brands like Totême have kept the trend at the current fashion forefront. Winter dressing can be tricky, and a matching piece like this can make your morning outfit dilemma that much easier to solve.

2. Knit Hoods

Pick your winter-accessory fighter: knit hats, fuzzy hats, or hoods. I'll be siding with hoods on this round. They provide the most warmth and add a statement to any simple ensemble.

3. Shearling Jackets

Shearling and winter are two peas in a pod. I used to think I'd get tired of the faux-fur look, but taking a look at both vintage outwear and the latest set of market options has made me rescind my previous opinion.

4. Oversize Striped Sweaters

I often wore baggy striped sweaters with leggings in college, and I'm still gravitating toward them today. It's the kind of piece that transcends time, but this year, I may trade the leggings for relaxed trousers and my backpack for a slouchy tote.

5. Colorful Scarves

For years, I've been reluctant on purchasing a punchy scarf because I was afraid it would be too "trendy." I finally hit purchase on an ACNE Studios scarf and regret not doing so earlier. It feels like a portable blanket and instantly adds a cool factor to whatever I'm wearing.

6. Long Wool Coats

While some may be reaching for their puffer jackets, my preferred outerwear of choice is a lengthy wool coat. Wear whatever you want underneath—your workout 'fit, a satin slip, or jeans—and it'll look sleek.

After interning at Who What Wear in 2019, she found her way to the team after graduating from LIM College in 2022 with a fashion media degree. She's also spent time writing and working for publications such as Fashionista, Coveteur, and Nylon, but she always knew that Who What Wear was where she was meant to be. When she's on the job, she's perusing runway shows, analyzing the latest thing fellow Gen Zers are up to on the internet, and sharing what she can about the modest-fashion market. You can also catch her dabbling in entertainment, talking about the costume choices of the latest Netflix series or diving deeper into how the plotline affects the viewers in a myriad of ways. Lastly, she likes to create content for Who What Wear's TikTok. Her personal time is spent doing similar but also different things—deep diving into almost every new TV show (Bridgerton, Gilmore Girls, and Stranger Things are favorites), planning her next local getaway (whenever that may be), and reading the latest Emily Henry or Sally Rooney novel in one sitting.
