People With the Glossiest Skin Use This Exact Product for a Summer Glow
From standout sheens to naturally glowy formulas, I tested the best shimmer body oils for summer 2026 and beyond.
It’s not even officially summer yet, and we’ve already just experienced our first heatwave here in the UK. And this means I’ll be packing away my heavier skincare products a lot sooner than I thought. And in their place, I’ll be relying on lightweight formulas that don’t feel too sticky or greasy on my skin.
For my face, this is easy enough, swapping out my rich creams for water-based moisturisers, but as someone with drier skin, finding a lightweight but just as hydrating alternative to my thicker body creams has been a challenge. However, last summer, my fellow Who What Wear UK beauty editors recommended a product that’s just as nourishing as a body lotion but also adds extra shine to give my skin that holiday-like glow I love in the summer. Enter the shimmer body oil.
Formulated with a myriad of skin-loving ingredients and packed with an amount of sparkle that rivals any highlighter, trust me when I say that you’ll find a body shimmer oil on the vanity of most editors and beauty lovers alike. Whether you have extremely dry skin like me, or simply want the extra glow that says, “I just got back from a sun-soaked getaway”, a shimmer body oil will help to lock in moisture and leave the skin looking and feeling smoother and softer.
And the best part? The beauty shelves are currently stocked with products suited to every skin type and budget. Whether you’re looking for an extra-nourishing formula for dehydrated skin or a dry-touch iteration for oilier skin types, a luxury bottle to treat yourself, or a budget-beauty buy that gets the job done at a fraction of the price, below we've rounded up the best shimmer body oils to invest in this summer.
The Best Body Shimmer Oils
- Best Overall Shimmer Oil: Phlur Beach Skin Shimmering Body Oil, £45
- Best Affordable Shimmer Oil: NYX Professional Makeup Fat Oil Body Oil, £15
- Best Luxury Shimmer Oil: Maison Francis Kurkdjian Sparkling Body Oil, £185
- Best SPF Shimmer Oil: Ultra Violette Disco Queen SPF 50 Body Oil, £38
- Best for Dry Skin: Saltair Shimmering Body Oil, £28
- Best for Oily Skin: L'Occitane Amande Shimmering Body Oil, £43
1. Phlur Beach Skin Shimmering Body Oil
Key Ingredients: Squalane, vitamin C, jojoba oil, meadowfoam seed oil, rosehip oil, paramela oil
Scented? Yes (Bergamot, salted tiare flower, fresh ocean mist, coconut milk, warm sandalwood, vanilla, musk)
Shade(s): 1 (light golden)
Phlur’s Beach Skin shimmer body oil has only been on the market for two months, but I’ve yet to meet a beauty editor who hasn’t fallen completely in love with this formula. The oil sinks into the skin beautifully, leaving it with a healthy, subtle glow. As someone with dry, dehydrated skin and eczema, I’m also extremely grateful for the blend of squalane, vitamin C and rosehip oil, which provides me with all-day nourishment. Not to mention the scent, which is a creamy blend of coconut, vanilla and musk, but it isn't overpowering nor does it irritate my usually sensitive skin.
Pros
- Lightweight, hydrating formula that leaves a flattering sheen on the skin
Cons
- Shimmer might be too subtle for those looking for extra glow
2. Ultra Violette Disco Queen SPF 50 Luminous Body Oil
Key Ingredients: Coconut Oil, vitamin E, almond oil
Scented? Yes (sweet citrus, soft jasmine, coconut)
Shade(s): 1 (bronze)
An SPF oil is my go-to type of sunscreen in summer, when I want a hydrating formula that doesn’t leave a white cast on my skin. And Ultra Violette’s Disco Queen SPF 50 Luminous body oil gives me all of this, plus a shimmery, high-shine glitter finish that’s reminiscent of being on a summer getaway. It has a non-greasy finish and doesn't transfer onto clothes like other shimmer body oils do, which is a plus in summer when I pull out my white and lighter neutral clothing. It has the most gorgeous light bronze finish, which blends in with my deeper skin without leaving a white cast, but this formula would also work for lighter skin tones as well, shearing out into a subtle golden colour.
Pros
- Provides a high level of UV protection
Cons
- Shimmer level might be too strong for those looking for a natural glow
3. Maison Francis Kurkdjian Sparkling Body Oil in Oud Satin Mood
Key Ingredients: Sweet almond oil, macadamia seed oil, apricot kernel oil, virgin argan oil
Scented? Yes (Damascena rose oil, violet accord, agarwood, styrax oil, vanilla-amber accord, benzoin)
Shade(s): 1 (light gold), but two scents, Oud Satin Mood and Baccarat Rouge 540
Some luxury skincare products are undeniably worth the extra splurge, and Maison Francis Kurkdjian's scented sparkling body oils are just that. Available in two of their most famous scents, Oud Satin Mood and Baccarat Rouge 540, this oil provides you with an all-day glow as well as the ability to either layer your scent under their eau de parfum for extra strength, or wear on its own for a slightly more affordable but no less effective way to get your hands on their popular fragrances. My personal favourite is the Oud Satin Mood, an ambery, woody floral that genuinely lasts for hours on my skin.
Pros
- Infused with real 24-carat gold flecks to provide a super-high-shine shimmer
Cons
- More expensive than other body oils on the market
4. NYX Professional Makeup Fat Oil Body Oil
Key Ingredients: Avocado oil, meadowfoam seed oil, vitamin E
Scented? Yes (almond blossom, brown sugar, crisp apple, caramel swirl, pistachio cream, jasmine, liquid amber, soft cedarwood, edenolide)
Shade(s): 2 (Caramelt Mami, Coconut Cutie)
You don't have to splash out loads of cash for a quality body oil that’s packed with high shine. NYX Professional Makeup’s Fat Oil body oil is silky, hydrating and doesn't transfer. Not to mention that it smells incredible, with notes of caramel, brown sugar and cedarwood. I’m usually a luxury skincare lover myself, but I cannot deny that this product’s formula and finish feel way more sophisticated than its £15 price tag, rivalling a number of high-end options on the market.
Pros
- A great budget-friendly option for those looking for a body oil with a high-shimmer finish
Cons
- Scent may be overpowering for those who are sensitive to strong fragrances
5. Saltair Shimmering Body Oil
Key Ingredients: Squalane, botanical oils, saururus oil, plumeria flower extract, astaxanthin
Scented? Yes (coconut, almond blossom, vanilla)
Shade(s): 3 (Pink Beach, Salt Water Vanilla, Golden Hour)
Dry, dehydrated skin? Look no further, as Saltair’s Shimmering Body Oil is packed with a myriad of nourishing ingredients, such as squalane, botanical oils and fatty-acid-rich saururus oil, to soften and smooth the skin. Available in three shades, this hydrating formula has a very subtle shimmer that catches the light beautifully, giving the skin such a sheeny glow without looking too glittery or over the top, making it perfect for those “no-makeup” makeup days. My personal favourite is Pink Beach, a light pink base with golden shimmer, but the golden and bronze iterations are just as good.
Pros
- Hydrating formula is great for dry skin
Cons
- Shimmer might be too subtle for those looking for extra glow
6. L'Occitane Amande Shimmering Body Oil
Key Ingredients: Sweet almond oil, sunflower seed oil, castor seed oil, vitamin E
Scented? Yes (sweet almond)
Shade(s): 1 (Gold)
If you have oily skin, you might be sceptical about trying out a shimmery body oil; however, there are plenty of formulas that are not greasy and won’t clog pores. The best of the lot? The cult classic sweet almond oil from L'Occitane, of course. And this beauty editor's favourite now comes in a shimmery version that’s perfect for summer. It's a silky, smooth formula that absorbs quickly into the skin without feeling too heavy and provides a non-greasy, dry-touch finish.
Pros
- Fast-absorbing, dry-touch formula that doesn't feel sticky
Cons
- Not suitable for those with almond/nut allergies
7. Sol De Janeiro Glowmotions Glow Oil
Key Ingredients: Cupuaçu butter, açai oil, coconut oil, sunflower seed oil
Scented? Yes (pistachio, almond, heliotrope, jasmine, salted caramel, vanilla)
Shade(s): 3 (Bronze, Sunset Bronze, Carnaval Queen)
The 100ml rule may have been lifted at most major UK airports, but you probably still don’t want to be lugging around unnecessarily heavy products with you on your holiday. Sol De Janeiro’s Glowmotion Glow Oil set features a moisturising formula that not only smells as good as the brand's iconic body mists, but also leaves your skin hydrated and radiant, creating a glowy effect without any annoying clumps of glitter. The set includes two 30ml bottles in a bronze and champagne hue, making them ideal for travel. I personally love to throw them in my handbag for top-ups on a night out, and I’ll also be taking these in my hand luggage for the sunny Euro getaways I have booked this summer.
Pros
- Formula can be sheered out or built up to a high-shimmer finish
Cons
- High pigment increases the risk transfer onto clothing
8. Tom Ford Soleil Blanc Shimmering Body Oil
Key Ingredients: Jojoba seed oil, olive fruit oil, safflower seed oil, vitamin E
Scented?: Yes (bergamot, pistachio, cardamom, white flowers, ylang-ylang, jasmine, tuberose, coco de mer, benzoin, amber-sandalwood)
Shade(s): 3 (Soleil Blanc, Soleil Blanc Rose Gold, Soleil Neige)
Wanting to get your hands on an iconic scent without splashing out for the full price? Tom Ford has got you covered with its shimmering body oil that was created to smell like its iconic summer perfume. Not only is the bottle absolutely stunning, but it comes with a fine-glitter shimmer that can be used sparingly for a natural glow, or built up for events like a wedding or summer garden party. Right now, I’m layering it under my other perfumes, but as the temperature rises, I’ll be using it alone as a lightweight alternative.
Pros
- Features the cult-favourite Soleil Blanc scent
Cons
- Spray formula means it can be hard to control application
9. Space NK Caribbean Shores Shimmer Body Oil
Key Ingredients: Argan oil, ashwagandha, baobab seed oil, vitamin E
Scented?: Yes (mandarin, jasmine, coconut, sandalwood and caramel)
Shade(s): 3 (Bronze, Golden, Pearl)
I love a natural-looking glow as much as the next person, but on those days I want a high-shine, glittery finish, I’ll be turning to SpaceNK’s Caribbean Shores shimmer body oil. Available in three shades, this lightweight formula melts seamlessly into the skin, leaving it deeply hydrated with a radiant glow that looks luminous without cheap-looking glitter pieces. It’s definitely one to pull out for those more formal summer occasions. In fact, I’m planning to wear it on my decolletage, collar bone and arms with a bandeau satin dress and kitten heels to a friend’s wedding next month.
Pros
- Highly hydrating and glowy formula
Cons
- High pigment increases the risk transfer onto clothing
