I Test Skin Tools for a Living—These Are the 8 So Good, I'd Actually Buy Them With My Own Money
From LED masks to microcurrent devices, these are the best skin tools our beauty editor would genuinely buy after testing them all.
One of the best parts about being a beauty editor is being able to road test the best skin tools before anyone else. From LED masks to microcurrent devices, I've tested a lot of them during my decade of working as a beauty journalist. But more often than not, skin tools are amongst some of the most expensive beauty products out there, so I take testing and reviewing them very seriously. Because if you're dropping hundreds (or in some cases, thousands) of pounds on a skin tool to add to your skincare routine, you want it to deliver tangible results and a good return on your investment.
Having been lucky enough to try countless beauty tools first-hand over the years, I'm often asked by friends and colleagues for their opinions on what skincare tools actually work and are actually worth buying. So, I thought it was high time that I compiled a list of the best skin tools I've ever tried. The ones that deliver on their promises, the ones that are worth the money and, crucially, the ones that are not eventually relegated to the back of a bedroom cupboard or drawer.
After careful consideration and months (even years) of testing, here is my curated list of the best skin tools that are truly worth your time and money.
Best Skin Tools 2025, Tried & Tested

- Best Overall: Currentbody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask (£400)
- Best LED Mask: Beauty Pie The Dynamo Deep LED Collagen-Boosting Mask (£199)
- Best Sculpting Skin Tool: NuFace Trinity+ Complete Facial Toning Kit (£585)
- Best De-Clogging Skin Tool: Shark FacialPro Glow (£300)
- Best Multi-Purpose Skin Tool: Déesse Pro Sculpta by Déesse Pro (£499)
1. Currentbody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 2
Pros
- Boosts collagen production, smooths fine lines and wrinkles, enhances skin clarity, and calms redness
- Newly contoured design ensures a perfect, comfortable fit
- Features three wavelengths: red, near-infrared, and deep near-infrared
- 236 LED bulbs deliver consistent, even coverage across the entire face
- Comfortable to wear while you go about your daily activities
- 10-minute treatment time
Cons
- This version only has one treatment setting
- On the more expensive side for an LED mask
Out of all of the LED masks I've tested, this is the one I trust the most, based on the results I've seen from it and the technology behind it. It's one of the more expensive LED masks, but if you can justify spending a little more, I do think it's worth it. I've now owned my Currentbody LED Red Light Therapy Face Mask Series 2 for just over a year, and I love the results I've seen from it. My skin is clearer, less inflamed and possesses more of a glow when I use it consistently. The mask is made of a flexible material, but has a moulded shape that makes it a more comfortable and secure fit compared to other LED masks I've tried.
2. Beauty Pie The Dynamo Deep LED Collagen-Boosting Mask
Price shown is members' price.
Pros
- More affordable than most LED masks
- New version includes Combines red light (630nm), near-infrared light (830nm) and deep near-infrared (1070nm)
- Helps reduce wrinkles, firm and brighten skin, and minimise redness and pigmentation
- 10 minute treatment time
- Flexible mask design comfortably moulds to the face
- Adjustable straps for a secure fit
- Easy to clean
- Lightweight and travel-friendly
Cons
- C-Wave version doesn't have a secure fit for some people
For those who want a more affordable LED mask that doesn't compromise on efficacy, I always recommend Beauty Pie's C-Wave LED Mask. More recently, Beauty Pie has launched a new and improved model, the Dynamo Deep LED Collagen-Boosting Mask, which features not just red and near-infrared light, but also deep infrared wavelengths that go deeper into the skin to boost skin texture and tone. It has the deepest wavelength penetration of any of the at-home LED masks, so it's a brilliant LED mask for the price. That being said, I saw great results from the original C-Wave LED Mask, too. However, I'd be inclined to opt for the latest model, which has a better fit and improved technology for the price.
3. Shark Cryoglow Under-Eye Cooling & LED Mask
Pros
- Combines red, blue, and near-infrared light to plump the skin, reduce breakouts, and enhance radiance
- Cooling under-eye patches help depuff and feature three adjustable cooling settings
- Four treatment modes allow for a fully customised experience
- An additional pair of cooling eye patches can provide a more comfortable fit for some users
- Convenient remote control with clip lets you multitask while using the mask
- Quick treatment times are all under 10 minutes
Cons
- Mask is bulky and trickier to store
- Cooling fans can be noisy during use
I've had a lot of friends and colleagues ask me about the Shark Cryoglow LED Mask and I can confirm that it's brilliant. What makes this LED mask stand out from others is that it also has cryotherapy-inspired cooling eye patches built into the mask itself, so you can depuff and cool the eye area while enjoying the benefits of LED therapy. This mask includes three treatments, all of which are under 10 minutes, including red light with near infrared to promote collagen, a blue light treatment to aid with acne and a skin sustain treatment which features all three wavelengths to maintain your results. I initially thought the cooling eye mask was gimmicky, but I'm now totally sold. It really helps to de-puff my eyes and I look more refreshed whenever I use it.
4. NuFace Trinity+ Complete Facial Toning Kit
Pros
- Helps lift, tone and sculpt the face
- Available in a range of models to suit different skin needs, with options to add LED therapy and additional attachments
- Connects to the NuFace app via Bluetooth for guided treatment videos and personalised routines
Cons
- It's a considerable investment
- Takes consistency to see and maintain results
If it's lifting and sculpting that you desire, then allow me to point you in the direction of the NuFace Trinity+. I will caveat that you need to be really consistent with it to see the long-term results, but it's great for those moments when you want the instant gratification of defined cheekbones and a more wide-awake appearance before an event. The results are akin to a sculpting facial in-clinic. It uses microcurrent technology to stimulate the facial muscles and you really do see a difference after using it. My brows sit higher, my face looks less puffy and my jawline looks more defined. It comes with an accompanying app that allows you to follow along with tailored treatments and also log photos to track your progress along the way.
5. Ziip Halo
Pros
- Uses nanocurrent and microcurrent
- Reduces wrinkles by 28% in 6 weeks
- Stimulates ATP and boosts collagen
- Smooths wrinkles and fine lines
- Electrical muscle stimulation helps to lift and tone facial muscles
- Treats pigmentation and age spots
Cons
- An investment purchase
- Replacement conductive gels can be expensive
The Ziip Halo is a brilliant device if you want to enjoy the sculpting effects of microcurrent alongside the supercharging skincare benefits of nanocurrent. With these two technologies working in tandem, it helps to boost the skin on a cellular level, helping to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation by increasing ATP in the skin (think of it as the battery of your skin cells), while the microcurrent stimulates the facial muscles to help lift and tone. Like NuFace, it requires regular and consistent use, but you can achieve great results with long-term treatments. You can conduct the treatments via the Ziip app, so you can follow along and conduct the perfect treatment plan for your skin goals.
6. Shark Facialpro Glow Glow-Boosting At-Home Facial System
Pros
- 2-in-1 pore suction device and massage tool
- Gently unclogs pores
- Infuses skin with hydration
- Massage tool helps to sculpt the skin, and can be used both cold and warm
- Kit includes Derm Detox and Hydro Infuse skincare
Cons
- It can be tempting to overuse the pore suction device more frequently than weekly
If you want a skin tool that both unclogs and sculpts, then look no further than Shark's FacialPro Glow. This skin tool features two attachments, including a pore-unclogging suction vacuum and a massage attachment that can be used both warm to ease facial tension and cold to help cool and depuff the skin. It effortlessly removes impurities, helping to reduce breakouts while leaving your skin texture looking smoother (and yes, you can see exactly what debris has been drawn out from your skin in the tank). You can also use it to infuse skincare into your skin, too. The cooling and warming massage attachment is a brilliant addition and I love that it's included. It melts away tension while helping to sculpt the skin.
7. Déesse Pro Sculpta
Pros
- Contains radiofrequency, LED and microcurrent in one device
- Helps to lift, tone, sculpt and boost collagen all in one
- Delivers both instant and long-term results
- Sleek design is easy to use and small enough to store in a drawer
- Three technologies in one means you save money on buying individual radiofrequency/LED/microcurrent devices devices
Cons
- An investment purchase
I'm a big fan of skin tools that combine multiple modalities and Déesse Pro Sculpta combines not one, not two, but three different treatments into one nimble skincare tool. It uses radiofrequency to help lift and firm, microcurrent to tone facial muscles and LED to encourage collagen production. While it's still an investment purchase, it's a great option if you want the option of trying different treatments without having to buy separate devices (which can also work out more expensive). You can also toggle the intensity of the treatments, so it's ideal for building on your results as you use it.
8. Currentbody RF Radio Frequency Skin Tightening Device
Pros
- Firms and improves skin texture
- Encourages collagen production
- Combines radio frequency with microneedling-inspired technology
- Only one treatment is required each week
- Easy to use
- No downtime
- Three radio frequency modes
- More affordable than in-clinic radio frequency treatments
Cons
- An investment purchase
- Treatment can take a long time
- Won't deliver the same technology as traditional in-clinic microneedling treatments
- The gel and microneedling patches require purchasing once you run out
Those wanting a radiofrequency-focused skin tool will love Currentbody's RF Radio Frequency Skin Tightening Device. Previously, it was harder to find radiofrequency treatments outside of a clinic, but this skin tool allows you to enjoy the benefits at home. It works by heating the skin, which helps to kickstart collagen production and tighten and firm the skin. The results aren't immediate (you'll see results at about eight weeks), but you only have to do the treatment once a week. My skin was noticely plumper and I looked better rested after using it. It can also be used in tandem with Currentbody's microneedling patches to help plump fine lines and wrinkles and boost the results of the radiofrequency.
How We Tested
As a beauty editor with a decade of experience testing skin tools, I've tried several tools over the years, from microcurrent devices to LED masks. Each skin tool on this list has been thoroughly tested for a minimum of a couple of months, all the way up to a year, so you can trust that I've put each one through its paces to find out if it's really worth your money. I've written extensive reviews for each skin tool and have logged before-and-after pictures for each so you can see the results for yourself.
