The recent London heatwave has forced me into a full wardrobe rethink. Suddenly, those "light layers" we all relied on in April feel laughable, and getting dressed has become less about putting together an outfit and more about finding pieces that won't leave me regretting every decision by the time I reach the Tube platform. As someone who spends most of the year talking about fashion for a living, I've realised summer dressing is actually where good wardrobes reveal themselves. Anyone can throw on a great coat in winter, but looking chic in 28-degree heat without sacrificing comfort? Much harder.
This is probably why I've found myself repeatedly landing on Hush lately. There's something about the brand's approach to summer that feels particularly relevant right now: easy pieces that don't require overthinking, fabrics that genuinely work in hot weather and silhouettes that look relaxed without veering sloppy. The brand taps into that laid-back Australian attitude to dressing, but still feels grounded enough for London life, which is perhaps why it continues to resonate so much with the fashion crowd. My own summer wardrobe has become increasingly reliant on hardworking staples, like linen trousers I can wear three times a week without getting bored, dresses that work with sandals during the day and a knit thrown over the shoulders in the evening and oversized shirts that somehow make everything look cooler.

Hush has occupied a fairly permanent spot in the Who What Wear office for years now, both here in the UK and back when I worked more closely with the U.S. team, too. It's one of those brands that quietly crops up in conversations in the office, usually when someone walks in wearing a really good pair of trousers and another editor immediately asks where they're from. The appeal has always been that it doesn't chase trends in an exhausting way. Instead, it focuses on pieces you end up relying on: great cotton shirts, relaxed tailoring, easy dresses and knitwear that always looks more expensive than it is. There's also a confidence to the styling that feels very Hush. It's never too try-hard or overly styled, just genuinely wearable clothes that still feel fashion-focused.
What I particularly like about the new collection is that it understands the reality of summer wardrobes. Not every outfit needs to be a "look"; sometimes, you just need a pair of trousers that make surviving a humid commute feel manageable whilst still looking polished enough for meetings, dinner plans or whatever else the day throws at you. The Juno barrel-leg trousers immediately stood out to me for that reason. They have a little structure through the leg, but still feel relaxed, especially styled with one of the Dakota cotton voile shirts worn slightly undone with sandals and oversized sunglasses. I also bookmarked the Amira knot-detail T-shirt almost instantly, because elevated basics are, frankly, the backbone of every good wardrobe once the weather heats up. It's the kind of piece you throw on with linen trousers and jewellery, and suddenly look like you made far more effort than you actually did.
And speaking of linen, Hush's always seems to avoid the overly crumpled fate that some others succumb to by midday, which makes a huge difference when you're actually wearing these pieces repeatedly throughout summer. The Lya Bermuda shorts are exactly the sort of thing I want to wear on repeat with simple tanks and leather sandals, whilst the Tovi barrel-leg trousers feel very aligned with the relaxed trouser silhouettes fashion people are leaning into this season. I've also already mentally added the Petunia trousers to my holiday packing list, along with a few linen shirts.
The holiday capsule deserves its own mention, because it manages to feel genuinely versatile rather than overly themed. You could (and I will) build an entire holiday wardrobe around the seersucker co-ords. The texture gives them that slightly undone, lived-in feel that always works well in summer, and the fact that they don't require ironing is a luxury in itself. I also love the Sophie scoop-neck midi dress and the Vita bubble-hem jumpsuit because they fall into my favourite category of dressing: one and done. Throw them on, add sandals and you're good to go. My sister and I have already had a conversation about the Liddie dress because we both want it, and we've agreed to wear it on separate occasions to avoid channelling the Hussain sisters circa 1999 when our mum insisted on dressing us identically. Traumatic at the time, slightly iconic in hindsight.
Then there are the accessories, which quietly pull the whole collection together without overpowering it. The woven tote bags, tortoiseshell jewellery and suede sandals all feel intentionally understated in a way that makes them incredibly wearable. I think that's ultimately why Hush continues to resonate with women who really care about fashion but don't necessarily want to look like they're chasing every online microtrend; the clothes fit into your life rather than demanding a completely different version of it.
At this point in the season, when getting dressed can easily start to feel repetitive, I've realised the pieces I wear most are the ones that make life easier and make me feel good. That sweet spot between comfort, practicality and style is harder to find than fashion likes to admit, but this collection gets very close. And honestly, after the week-and-a-bit London has just had, that's exactly the kind of summer-wardrobe energy I’m after.
