These Movado Watches Are at the Top of Our Holiday Wish Lists—Here's Why

When I need to get a head start on my holiday wish list, I always ask friends and colleagues for suggestions. This year, I blame my screen-centered life for my unrelenting desire for an analog watch—a classic piece I won't tire of by next year. I took all my questions about what to look for and why to Stephanie Johnson, our branded content director. Her answers kept pointing back to a trio of options from a singular collection: the Movado Museum collection. Keep reading to discover why the Museum Classic, Museum Bangle, and Museum Velura are all vying for the top spot on my wish list.
I Want a Watch With History. Where Should I Start?
First, Steph pointed out Movado's Museum dial, which appealed to my minimalist sensibilities. Its face is clean, with just a single dot at 12 o'clock, representing the sun at high noon. What makes this watch a keeper is that just 13 years after it was created by modernist Nathan George Horwitt, it landed in the permanent collection at New York’s Museum of Modern Art (the first watch dial to do so). And today, it's in no less than 20 museums around the world. As the name suggests, the Museum Classic is the OG. And with its 28mm yellow-gold PVD case, black dial, and calfskin strap, it's easy to see why. I can picture wearing it with a blazer and tailored pants to the office, or with a sweater and jeans on the weekend.
Can I Get Swiss Craftsmanship Without Paying Luxury Prices?
Yes, according to Steph. "Movado has been producing women's watches in Switzerland for more than a century," she says. It was founded there in 1881, so every Museum watch is Swiss-made, with a Swiss quartz movement and a sapphire embellishment. But none of these three timepieces comes with the usual sticker shock: the Classic is $695, the Bangle is $895, and the Velura, the priciest of the bunch, is $1,995.
While all three have a place in a modern wardrobe, the Museum Bangle arguably takes the prize for the biggest wow factor. It has a 26mm oval yellow-gold case and a slim bangle bracelet, so it looks more like jewelry than a timepiece. It’s also the one that will mix and mingle with your other bracelets in the most natural way.
Which Watch Should I Buy to Celebrate a Big Year?
I hit a few personal milestones this year, so I asked Steph which timepiece makes the best memory marker. Without hesitation, she told me about the Museum Velura. It has a 25mm yellow-gold PVD case and a bezel set with 0.394 carats of lab-grown diamonds.
"I love lab-grown diamonds to achieve the same sparkling effect without blowing your budget," she says. "A celebratory treat should be something high-quality and well-designed—but I also like to encourage shoppers to buy something they can wear every day to remind them of their milestone. The Movado Museum Velura watch is the perfect balance of elevated and versatile, so you don't need to save it for special occasions."
Which Watch Works Best for Every Day?
Any of them, Steph says, depending on your style and propensity for sparkle. The Classic's masculine strap lends itself to menswear inspired outfits. The Bangle is the cocktail option that layers beautifully with everyday jewelry. And the Velura, with its soft mesh strap can do it all, taking you from boardrooms to bar stools with ease.
"The Movado Museum Velura has a Milanese polished mesh bracelet that shines just like jewelry and that's softer and more comfortable than traditional metal bracelets," adds Steph. Plus, it has a rich history: "The Milanese weave first started in Renaissance and Baroque Milan, so it has a strong history of fine craftsmanship."
