Timeless Jewelry in a Modern World: Here's How We're Styling This Iconic Collection
If there's one thing I admire about Who What Wear's associate editorial director, Eliza Huber, it's that she's never been one to blindly follow the crowd. She has opinions, and she's not afraid to share them—especially when it comes to fashion. Her personal style is exactly that: personal. And when it comes to buying jewelry, she's even more particular about what deserves a place in her collection. "I think with jewelry being such a big investment, it's important to find something you are in love with," Huber tells me. "Don't follow trends or buy whatever the cool person you follow is wearing. It won't feel authentic to you, and therefore, you won't wear it past one season."
With Roberto Coin, Huber had no trouble finding pieces that spoke to her aesthetic. The Italian luxury jewelry house is celebrating its 30th anniversary with new collections this year, and its sculptural gold necklaces and intricate diamond-studded floral designs caught her eye. "I adore the hidden bits, whether they add a pop of color or some sparkles in unexpected places," she says. And rather than choosing jewelry to complement her outfits, she did the opposite: She built all three looks around the pieces themselves. Keep scrolling to see how she styled the new collection.
"This sounds weird, but I often let jewelry direct the outfit instead of the outfit directing my jewelry choices. Case in point: The low-V silk dress I wore with Roberto Coin's long flower necklace. The necklace's long chain meant it required a specific neckline, and fortunately, I had just the dress. From there, I let the necklace steer me toward other pieces, like the drop flower earrings and a structured gold bracelet with flower decals made of delicate diamond stones. Finally, with the dress being a fairly blank canvas, I wanted to add a few pops of color; thus, the two rings I added at the last minute."
"I've always loved the way red goes with gold jewelry, so this soft knit felt like a perfect canvas for tons of interesting and perhaps unexpected necklace layering. I paired a short, almost choker-like chain necklace with a longer embellished one, creating an eye-catching combination. Then, I just kept going, adding a bracelet stack, a couple of rings, and a beautiful pair of huggie earrings that I think I could wear with just about anything, and they'd look great. Pairing a sweater with a pencil skirt and boots is my most-worn outfit formula whenever fall rolls around, so you can bet I'll be rewearing this ensemble quite a few times this fall."
"I fell in love with Roberto Coin's open-collar necklace and knew it needed a strapless neckline to ensure it didn't get lost in any fabric, so I selected a draped top with a peplum waist and then added a pair of vintage velvet trousers for a really fun, holiday-ready ensemble. I know it's early, but it's never really too early to celebrate. I'm totally the person playing holiday music in October…"
