These 9 Products Are Why EmRata's Hair Is So Damn Shiny
While I have a whole roster of hair products that I use every single week, there's one thing that my hair is always lacking in: shine. As a bit of background, my mum has fine but glossy straight hair while my dad has coarse but tightly coiled curls. My hair, on the other hand, is fine but coarse, with none of that curl definition or shiny finish. (Thanks, parents.) However, there is one lady that I follow on Instagram whose hair is always so damn shiny that you need a pair of sunglasses to look at her selfies: Emily Ratajkowski.
Yes, the queen of glowing skin also has the glossiest hair in the business. But what exactly does she use for the shiniest strands in the land?
Turns out, when it comes to haircare recommendations, EmRata is something of a treasure trove. Keep scrolling to discover the seven hair products that Emily Ratajkowski actually uses and genuinely swears by for keeping her hair in supermodel condition.
#1: Kérastase Resistance Range
Talking through her evening skin and haircare routine in a video for Harper's Bazaar, Emily credited this salon-standard strengthening shampoo, conditioner and mask with being the hair range that she swears by.
After shampooing and conditioner, she applies the mask and lets it sink in to really get to work. "I leave it on sometimes if I'm out of the shower and I want a little bit of extra time," Ratajkowski explained. "I'll just let it chill. If I'm in the shower, then 5 minutes and I'll take it out."
#2: Alterna Caviar Style Sheer Dry Shampoo
Something that Emily credits with keeping her hair in good condition is forgoing daily washing by using dry shampoo on in-between days. "Shampooing your hair isn't great," Ratajkowski revealed in a video for Into the Gloss. "I like to use this because my hair is really fine and I have a lot of it, so I use this dry shampoo when I'm on-the-go. It means I don't have to wash my hair a lot. You just put it in—it's just a powder—and it absorbs the oil."
#3: Living Proof Instant Texture Mist
"My hair is very straight—people always think that I've ironed it when I get to set. They're like, 'How is your hair this straight?' For me, it's always a battle of not damaging it too much and getting a perfect amount of texture," Ratajkowski told Into the Gloss. Her texture spray of choice? "I spray some Living Proof Instant Texture Mist in."
#4: L'Oréal Elnett Hairspray
As for when she isn't wearing her hair straight? Emily is a fan of beach waves. "So I usually just curl it with some basic iron," she explained. "I do it in sections and then brush it out and spray it with Elnett."
#5: Kérastase Resistance Serum Extentioniste
Emily credits this serum with her hair looking fuller and shinier. In fact, even her friends have noticed. "It’s got to the point where my friends are like 'You've started using something different because your hair looks fuller.' I really do think it's pretty amazing," she told Harper's Bazaar. "I've never really been one for taking pills or anything like that for hair, so this is kind of my secret."
#6: Bumble and Bumble Pret a Powder
Another favourite dry shampoo comes in the form of this travel-friendly pot from Bumble and bumble, but this time its purpose is for texture. "I just ran out of it, so I've been using baby powder for more volume," Ratajkowski said. "The smell isn't great, but it works just as well. I've tried every kind of dry shampoo and they don't work. I just have to use a powder instead."
#7: Kérastase Styling L'Incroyable Blowdry
"On days where I’m going to a bunch of interviews or meetings, I’ll use the mousse from mid-length down, and then blowdry it with Kérastase Styling L'Incroyable Blowdry," Emily told Coveteur. "It adds a nice texture. My hair’s really straight, so I have no curl at all, and getting a little bit of volume in it is super important. And then I can kind of leave that for a couple of days."
