Step Inside the Dream Closet of Fashion Designer Anine Bing

Jenna Peffley for MyDomaine

Fashion designer Anine Bing let us inside her Los Angeles house for a MyDomaine home tour. Recently renovated, it’s a gorgeous take on Scandinavian design. The space has a cool aesthetic, filled with black leather chairs, iconic photos of Brigitte Bardot, and her Savage Rose candles burning on every shelf. But the room we couldn’t resist snapping photos of was her closet.

Anine Bing’s closet is an extension of her personal style—minimal and modern with a rock ’n’ roll feel. There are entire spaces dedicated to her T-shirts, jeans, and ankle boots, which she wears in constant rotation. But perhaps our favorite part of her closet is the armoire that houses her collection of bags, including classic styles from Chanel in every color. Ahead, we’re talking with Anine Bing about her fashion insights.

WHO WHAT WEAR: What’s the one piece in your closet you would never toss?

ANINE BING: My Chanel bags I’ve collected over the years, our first Anine Bing leather jacket, or a diamond necklace my grandmother gave me years ago. I can’t choose just one!

WWW: What is your number one trick for looking photogenic in pictures?

AB: Oh god, I wish I had the answer. I took a selfie with my friend Rosie Huntington-Whiteley the other week and realized I haven’t figured it out yet! [Laughs.] She knew exactly what to do. and she always looks so damn beautiful. But I guess some people are just more photogenic than others. My advice: Find your “good" side and also don’t try too hard.

WWW: What is your go-to travel outfit for the airplane?

AB: I’m usually in comfortable jeans or leather leggings, a T-shirt, and one of our cashmere knits. They’re the coziest for longer flights. I recently wore our stirrup leggings on a flight to London—so comfortable.

WWW: What’s the one style of jeans that’s most flattering?

AB: I think almost everyone can find a great pair of vintage Levi’s. But if not, you really can’t go wrong with a pair of black skinny jeans, like our black Christy Jean. They’re universally flattering on most body types.

WWW: How does living in L.A. influence your style?

AB: It’s so much more casual and less glam than some cities in Europe and New York. I love that I can go out at night in jeans, a T-shirt, a leather jacket, and very little makeup in L.A. You can’t always get away with that in other major cities. Living in L.A. and building my brand, I’ve definitely developed a “uniform” of jeans, a vintage tee, boots, and a leather jacket for when it’s chillier. I love the more rock ’n’ roll style here—it’s so cool and effortless.
