So you’ve got the plane ticket, booked a hotel, and made all your reservations—now what? It’s time to plan your outfits. Hopefully, you’ve already read up on my overall vacation style goal for spring and summer and have gotten a general idea of the best and worst things to pack, so today I thought I’d switch gears and hone in on the cover-ups you should be wearing over all those trendy swimsuits you just bought. After all, what you wear to the beach deserves as much attention as what you’ll wear to dinner and dancing, right? Right!

The best part is that the cover-ups you’re about to see not only are all available in a range of prices but are incredibly versatile, too—and there’s a good chance you already have at least one in your wardrobe. I'm pretty sure it doesn't get better than that. To see and shop the three cover-ups fashion girls won’t be traveling without this summer, just keep scrolling.

Crochet Dresses

I love the crochet dress because it's such a versatile choice. Firstly, whether you want to go loose or figure-hugging, there's an option for you. Also, many of them can double as a dress beyond the beach if you opt for one that's not see-through, or simply layer something under. Who doesn't enjoy more bang for their buck?

Sarongs

Also known as a pareo, the fuss-free fabric cover-ups are actually traditional in many cultures but have also gained much traction within the fashion crowd in recent years. One great thing about them is that if you're on a budget, you can use a scarf you already own to emulate the look. Of course, if you want to buy a new one, we have our favorites, too.

Dad Shirts

In other words, a short-sleeve button-down, but I know you get the dad reference! Where oversize button-downs had their moment in beachwear, this summer, it's all about this more tailored style.

Senior Market Editor

Since starting as an intern back in 2013, Nicole Akhtarzad Eshaghpour has held several roles here at Who What Wear, and she is currently Editor-at-Large. It was a less expected route, seeing as she was graduating from business school at USC when this all began, but it has turned out to be the best one for her. Fast-forward to 2020, and she's moved to NYC from her hometown of Beverly Hills and spends her workdays a little differently from when she was an intern starting out. Currently, she focuses on a weekly mélange of shopping content. As far as her personal style goes, she's largely drawn to classic pieces and neutral basics but will always make an exception for something colorful, printed, or bejeweled as long as it's deemed worthy enough. After all, the only thing she loves more than a good party is dressing up for one. On weekdays, she can usually be found at home eating something delicious for dinner and trying to force her husband to watch 90 Day Fiancé.
