Fresh, Seductive, and Expensive-Smelling—French Women Would Love to Keep This Perfume a Secret
I'm pretty obsessed with perfumes. Not only do I love trying out all the different fragrances on offer, but I love talking about fragrance. Finding out what scents people can't live without, which brands earn them the most compliments and which perfumes have people chasing them down the street are the kind of conversations I live for as a beauty editor.
However, something I really love is when someone asks me what fragrance I'm wearing and it's a brand that they've never heard of. That might sound weird, but there's something almost rewarding about helping someone discover a more niche perfume that you know will stay in their collection for years to come.
There are so many incredible under-the-radar fragrance brands out there, but if you want to smell really expensive, then there's a particular French brand that I couldn't recommend enough. Let me introduce you to L'Artisan Parfumeur...
What Is L'Artisan Parfumeur?
Junior beauty editor, Grace Lindsay, has been testing out all of the brand's bestselling scents.
If you're not yet familiar with this niche French fragrance house, not to fear, as I've got all the information you need. This luxury brand is stocked at some of the most esteemed beauty halls out there, from Harrods to Liberty and Selfridges, and the story behind it is truly one of a kind.
Back in 1976, Jean Laporte (who trained as a chemist) founded L'Artisan Parfumeur after being asked by a friend to create a banana fragrance to wear with a costume of the same fruit to an event at the Folies Bergères in Paris. After creating this unique scent, Laporte began experimenting with more and more "natural essences" and eventually he was named "L'Artisan Parfumeur".
Although these fragrances will become classics in your collection, some of them definitely have a more experimental edge, but there's no denying how expensive they each smell.
Do L'Artisan Parfumeur Perfumes Last?
One thing I love about these fragrances is that they really last. They are definitely more of an investment, so I think it's good to know that you are getting more for your money when purchasing a perfume from this brand. Thanks to the distinct notes, each scent packs a punch and I guarantee you will still be getting wafts of your chosen fragrance at the end of the day.
So, if you want to earn yourself compliments and stand out from the crowd, keep on scrolling for my top picks from the brand...
The Best L'Artisan Parfumeur Perfumes
1. Mûre et Musc
Key notes: Blackberry, lemon and musk
First up is my all time favourite, Mûre Et Musc. If I could bathe in this fragrance I would do so every single day. It is a sparkling, fresh scent that makes me feel somewhat nostalgic as it reminds me of those juicy, fizzy sweets you would buy from the corner shop as a child. However, once ripe blackberry and zesty lemon settle on the skin you are met with the addictive undertones of warm white musk which gives this scent an incredibly grown-up edge.
2. Passage D'Enfer
Key notes: Cedarwood, incense and white lily
If you want a slightly sexier, date-night fragrance, then you can't go wrong with Passage D'Enfer. To me, this scent smells like a hazy, smoke-filled club in the centre of Paris. It has some serious depth thanks to cedarwood and incense, but notes of white lily give it a hint of sweetness. It's definitely not for the faint-hearted, but it is bound to turn heads.
3. L’Eau D’Ambre
Key notes: Benzoin, patchouli and tonka beans
Another incredibly seductive scent is L’eau D’Ambre. This fragrance just oozes luxury thanks to musky patchouli and rich, creamy benzoin. The notes may suggest a sweet, vanilla-like scent, but this is so much more. It's woody, smooth, warm and velvety and it will have you completely hooked.
4. Histoire D'Orangers
Key notes: Musk, neroli and orange blossom
Orange blossom is such a popular note when it comes to perfume, and this has to be one of the stand-out options on the market. The only way I can describe it is like biting into a fresh, juicy orange on a hot summer's day. It is super citrusy but also rich and heady which makes it a perfect choice for both day and night.

If you like rose scents but want something a bit different, try Mémoire De Roses. With fresh, zingy hints of bergamot, it's a beautifully modern take on a floral fragrance.
With notes of jasmine, tuberose and ylang ylang, this soft, floral scent is a stunning everyday choice.
As the name suggests, this juicy fragrance contains strong hints of peach with a woody, salty edge.
If you like fig scents, then this fragrance is for you.
I love vanilla perfumes, and this delicate fragrance is no exception.
