The intricacies of planning a wedding can be exhausting. But more important than the flowers, napkins, and color scheme is the dress. Finding a style that fits your personality but will look good in photos 20 years down the line takes a bit of searching. Because while you want your dress to feel current, you also don't want it to feel overly trendy. So with Bridal Fashion Week for F/W 18 finally behind us, we decided to tap an expert to talk the wedding day styles to keep an eye on for the coming year.

"We saw a lot of new trends this bridal fashion week, but one of my absolute favorites was the return to clean and modern silhouettes," says Lisa Gooder, the executive director of editorial at Brides. Worth noting is the fact that Gooder sees brides choosing simpler dresses that they personalize with accessories or add-on details. Another major trend for wedding day dressing? "This is the year that a second wedding look becomes the norm," says Gooder. "We saw so many chic pants, minidresses, and even shorts and rompers that are screaming after-party!"

As for trends that are on the way out? "This season, we hardly saw any long trains," Gooder notes. "In their place were short jackets and chic long capes, some made of tulle that often had the effect of a veil, but feel slightly more modern."

Read on for a look at a few of Gooder's favorites from Bridal Fashion Week, then shop styles for your big day!
