I Live in Dresses, and These Are the 5 Trends I'll Wear Well Into 2023
You only need to have a quick scan of a tube platform or any shopping centre to see that midi dresses have become an easy uniform for British women. They are a reliable outfit in one and make you feel polished, even on those mornings when you only have five minutes to get ready. In winter, they can be a little trickier to style, however, because you have to think about the length of your coat, whether it goes with a couple of layers of knitwear and what boots you can wear with said dress.
There are five dress trends this winter that make all these styling questions a little easier, and you're going to see a lot of this month and beyond. If comfort is what you are into, then look no further than the jumper dress, which now comes in so many stylish iterations, dispelling the myth that the jumper dress is unshapely. If you lived in slip dresses in the summer, then the satin midi dress equivalent is probably the answer to your winter occasion dress woes.
Keep scrolling to see and shop the five dress trends I'm going to wear well into 2023.
1. Knitted Dresses
Style Notes: Jumper dresses have long been a firm winter favourite with French women, but they have recently been embraced by the fashion crowd since Christopher Esber and Chloe have been putting new spins on the style. They're a firm favourite in 2022 and I can't see much changing in 2023. Comfy, flattering and stylish? What more could you want.
You needn't say goodbye to the infamous cut-out in the winter months with clever styles like this.
A chic all-in-one outfit.
It's not just about midis next year, the mini has taken over in all forms and this LouLou Studio's number pairs brilliantly with boots.
2. Silky Slip Dresses
Style Notes: Satin slip dresses were something of a fashion-girl uniform, and this is how to wear the style in winter. You'll find silky midis with long or puffed statement sleeves in every colour you could hope for—from jade greens to rich browns and neutrals, of course.
It's a cult dress for good reason. It's classic, chic and timeless.
The A-line slip dress is equally flattering and works well from day to night.
A sleek cut in this deep brown hue complete with puff sleeves. It makes a difference from sleeveless slip dresses.
Between the back ties, fluted sleeves and sheeny fabrication, this is a truly special piece.
3. Dark Printed Dresses
Style Notes: This dress style is easily paired with black tights and ankle boots, making it one of the most popular styles in every new-in section right now. Like clockwork, the same trend comes back around year after year.
A classic vintage-style button-down with an exaggerated collar detail.
Dôen designs are synonymous with the summery cottagecore aesthetic so their pieces also speak to girly winter dressers.
You can never steer wrong with dark florals. Like the summertime equivalent, it remains a firm staple.
The clashing prints work well in unison. Pair this with deep brown high-knee boots for a '70s vibe.
4. A Fabulous Black Dress
Style Notes: The LBD is a staple year-round and come autumn retailers and designers grant us an abundance of this style just in time for the party season. This year black dresses come with lacy adornments and in silk and velvet variations.
The mix of velvet and peek-a-boo lace is much welcome for the festive season. More is more!
This dress also comes with straps so you can wear it one of two ways. It's also crafted from breathable cotton, which is unheard of for formalwear.
Rejina Pyo master the bouffant sleeve and full skirt every time - case in point, the Etta dress.
5. Striped Dresses
Style Notes: Stripes are having quite the moment this year and thanks to the infamous Chloe dress (listed below) brightly-hued variations are dominating the high street and designer collections. Although it's a current trend, it has longevity and I predict it following us into 2023.
This playful design is one for maximalists and lovers of clashing prints and bold colourways.
The way to wear stripes if you're a lover of neutral tones. Pair it with boots now and trainers and a trench coat in the spring.
Very reminiscent of its designer counterpart and now with a significant discount!
