Bathing suit season is right around the corner, and it’s time to get back in the (bike) saddle at SoulCycle! The indoor cycling facility offers a range of full-body workouts designed to release stress, burn fat, and tone muscle. We chatted with SoulCycle trainer Kym Perfetto about everything from the best beginner classes to the perfect workout playlist to show you just how effective and fun this workout can be.
WWW: What parts of your body benefit most from SoulCycle?
KP: SoulCycle differs from other indoor cycling classes because it's a full-body workout on a bike that requires core strength, rhythm, and coordination of the upper and lower body. Each class consists of interval jumps out of the saddle, quick-fire sprints, hill climbs, push-ups, and a 5-10 minute weights section—all while cycling on a SoulCycle! Your whole body gets worked!
WWW: Can someone slim down relatively quickly from regularly attending SoulCycle classes?
KP: Riders come back to SoulCycle week after week, day after day, because it’s fun and they enjoy it as part of their lifestyle. We have some amazing transformation stories from riders who have dropped 10, 20, 30, 40lbs, and more from attending SoulCycle classes. The workout burns calories and tones bodies.
WWW: Any tips for someone who has never tried it before?
KP: They say there’s nothing like your first time, so we've created a program just for beginners called SOUL101. It's three, one-hour introductory classes that are team-taught by three rockstar instructors to give you extra attention. In class, we break down the basics, so you can feel really comfortable walking into any class. But don’t let the word “intro” fool you... you’ll be rocking out, finding the rhythm, and breaking a sweat!
We run 101 programs across our studios several times a year, but you don’t have to wait for the next round to jump on a SoulCycle—beginners are welcome in all of our classes. We’ll make sure you are set up on the bike and talk you through some pointers.
WWW: What is the biggest misconception about SoulCycle?
KP: That it’s too hard, too scary, and too intimidating. It really, really isn’t. SoulCycle is for EVERYONE! We want everyone we meet to know that they can tap it back on a bike, go on a spiritual journey, and change their body!
WWW: What 3 songs should everyone have on their workout playlist?
KP: This is a tough one, but since I like to go hard, I would have to say:
1. “Disclosure” by Latch Featuring Sam Smith T. Williams Club Edit
2. “Get Back” by Ludacris
3. “Watch Out For This (Bumaye)” by Major Lazer
