It’s that magical time of year where we’re almost at the end of winter, and all our favourite fashion brands start releasing their spring campaigns—which only contributes to the feeling that the cold will never end.
This week, Country Road released its S/S 17 campaign, and one model in particular caught our attention. Zoe Barnard, the Hong Kong-born, Canberra-based model is destined for big things. The 18 year old made her Fashion Week Australia debut this year—and she has also caught the eye of Vogue Australia and Paris Vogue. If this campaign (and the talent she stars alongside—Bridget Malcolm, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo) is anything to go by, she’s definitely on the right track
Who What Wear Australia: What’s your earliest memory of Country Road?
Zoe Barnard: I went to a private all-girls school and everyone had the Country Road tote bags. I had one too, I still use it all the time. It is such a convenient size.
WWW: We’re predicting big things for you this year! What do you have planned for the remainder of 2016?
ZB: I’ll be finishing school this year, which is exciting! I’m thinking about potentially moving to New York, but that might have to wait till next year.
WWW: What would people be most surprised to hear about you?
ZB: I am very passionate about film and the whole concept of film making. I think it’s such a powerful medium.
WWW: What are your favourite pieces to wear for spring? And how would you style them? ZB: I’m a really big fan of basics. I love lots of shades of greys and blacks. Soft denim and T-shirts are my favourite pieces. I’m more of a comfort person than a style person. I can’t wear anything that’s uncomfortable no matter how good it looks.
WWW: What Instagram accounts do you follow for style inspiration?
ZB: I follow Yen and i-D for inspiration, but my entire feed provides lots of style inspiration.
WWW: What three things will we always find in your handbag?
ZB: Three things you will always find in my handbag are my water bottle, a pack of cards and my Polaroid camera.
WWW: What’s your signature styling trick?
ZB: Keep it simple and add different textures or a pop of colour as a statement moment.
WWW: What’s your fashion security blanket?
ZB: A good pair of jeans. I live in my jeans. I love high-waisted styles, they give you shape and they’re so comfortable. My mum gave me this amazing pair that she use to wear in the ‘80s—they fit like a glove, I wear them all the time.
WWW: Who’s your all-time fashion icon and why?
ZB: It’s too hard to choose. I love Alexa Chung, A$AP Rocky and Cara Delevingne. They’re still fashionable but are always so effortless in their appearances.
